    Job Summary and Qualifications

     

    The CQR Educator is responsible for assisting in the efficient and effective design, development, and delivery of all CQR education components to the Central Coding Unit team, including strategic partners and other stakeholders as applicable.

     

    The CQR Educator is responsible for thorough understanding of the CQR Quality Workplan and will ensure all education efforts promote compliance and awareness of the plan. Additionally, this individual will be a subject matter expert (SME) in ensuring compliance with national coding guidelines, CCU and company coding policies, and monitor governmental and commercial payer information for complete, accurate and consistent code assignments.

     

    The CQR Educator, in collaboration with CQR leadership, will work to identify opportunities for coder education via coder reviews, stakeholder feedback, and review of data analytics that identify educational opportunities, trends, etc. The CQR Educator will also collaborate with other external departments as needed to provide input on coding education opportunities and assist with creation of education materials to improve the accuracy, consistency, and efficiency of code assignment for reimbursement and reporting purposes.

     

    This individual will assist in training and support of medical coding staff through education forums, written coding resources, creation and maintenance of coding training materials and other duties as assigned.

     

    The CQR Educator will support the CCU team to achieve goals and objectives, continually looking for process improvements, and reporting operational results. This individual will foster an environment of teamwork and work excellence within the coding team and also be responsible for setting the tone of the Parallon HSC Central Coding Unit as a service organization, continuously seeking to understand, meet, and exceed customer expectations and needs.

    What you will do in this role:

    + Participate in the development of strategic coding and CQR communication and education plans which outline the target audience, training needs, training methods, implementation, and evaluation for CCU.

    + Participate in the development of coding content-specific, competency-based, and operational-based communication and education deliverables in conjunction with specific business unit resources and technical experts from the field.

    + Participate in the delivery of communication and coding training to various groups, including leadership teams and end-users. Delivery methods may include instructor-led, train-thetrainer, virtual classroom, web-cast, or web-based methodologies.

    + Inform CQR Leadership of any significant issues (e.g., education process issues, payer issues, vendor issues, etc.).

    + Stay informed and relay any unique coding or payer documentation requirements, significant changes, and/or coding developments.

    + Assist with tracking educational needs and delivery of coding education at individual or group coder level.

    + Analyze training course evaluations, and recommend appropriate action to incorporate feedback in addition to providing annual content review.

    + Identify and implement process improvements to lower costs and improve service to customers.

    + Champion ideas for innovation, knowledge sharing and CCU coding workflow among peer groups.

    + Stay abreast of coding/billing regulatory requirements and company compliance policies, ensuring timely staff education in support of coding accuracy and integrity.

    + Understand and communicate nuances of unique coding requirements for major payers such as Medicare, Medicaid, HMO’s, PPO’s, IPA’s, employers, etc.

    + Demonstrate and share knowledge of medical terminology, International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding for multiple specialty areas.

    + Provide relevant coding guidance for customers and other departments to resolve issues.

    + Provide subject matter expertise in the development, implementation and monitoring of coding related standard resources, processes, and reporting.

    + Demonstrate and apply knowledge of principles and practices of Education and Organizational Development.

    + Assist in translating business reporting requirements to development staff.

    + Maintain confidentiality with all company and regulated information.

    + Attends/schedules meetings as needed for coding team.

    + Reviews codes for complex operative procedures and answers coding questions from coding team.

    + Available to assist and or other appropriate staff in documentation, billing, coding, and reimbursement issues.

    + Assists in performing chart reviews for providers and coders as needed.

    + Responsible for coding staff and tracking hours of courses for compliance deadlines.

    + Performs related work and projects as required.

    + Practice and adhere to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement”.

    + Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    + High school diploma or GED preferred

    + Minimum four years coding and/or reimbursement experience required. Relevant education may substitute experience requirement. Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology is preferred. Knowledge of pathophysiology is preferred.

    + Experience in multi-specialty coding strongly preferred.

    + Inpatient/outpatient professional fee coding experience required.

    + Previous audit experience preferred.

    + Coding certification through AHIMA or AAPC required. Experience may be accepted in lieu of coding certification.
