    Job Description

    Texas A&M University–Texarkana is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Assistant Coach for Track & Field and Cross Country. This position supports the Head Coach in all aspects of operating a competitive NCAA Division II program in alignment with the university's mission, the Lone Star Conference, and NCAA guidelines.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    + Assist in the planning, organization, and supervision of all training, practice sessions, and competition schedules for men’s and women’s cross country and track & field programs.

    + Specialize in and coach specific event groups (e.g., distance, sprints, throws, jumps) as assigned by the Head Coach.

    + Assist with the recruitment and retention of high-character, academically qualified, and athletically talented student-athletes.

    + Promote the academic, athletic, and personal development of student-athletes through mentoring, discipline, and consistent support.

    + Assist with administrative tasks including travel planning, budgeting, inventory, compliance, and documentation.

    + Ensure student-athlete compliance with all university, NCAA, and Lone Star Conference rules and regulations. Represent the university positively in the community, participate in fundraising, alumni outreach, and team-related events.

    + Assist in transportation of athletes to/from athletic events, which may include driving a full-size passenger van or other large capacity vehicle.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    + One (1) year previous high school, collegiate or higher-level coaching and playing experience.

    + General knowledge of NAIA and NCAA rules.

    + Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.

    + Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

    + Oral and written communication skills.

    + Ability to travel and work beyond normal office hours.

    + Must have a State of Texas or Arkansas class "C" vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.

    + Acceptable driving record and periodic completion of van safety course

    + Ability to maintain confidentiality.

    + Physical Requirements -

    + Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

    + Working in all weather conditions, exposure to high noise levels, standing throughout the day, the ability to use a loud voice at practices and events and physical involvement in all practices and workouts with players.

    + This position may be required to handle Protected Health Information (PHI) as defined by Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations, in accordance with System policy and is further required to complete FERPA and HIPAA training as a condition of employment, within a reasonable timeframe after employment and on an as-needed basis thereafter.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Master’s degree

    + Supervisory experience

    + CPR Certification

    This position generally does not supervise employees.
