Accounting Manager
A client of ours in the Newark, Delaware area is looking for a hands-on, experienced Accounting Manager for a contract to hire role. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to core accounting operations while also playing a key role in an upcoming SAP/S4 HANA ERP implementation. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting skills, leadership experience, and the ability to adapt between strategic oversight and tactical execution.
Key Responsibilities of Accounting Manager:
+ Lead and manage general accounting operations including month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
+ Supervise and mentor a team of accounting professionals (3+ years of direct supervisory experience required).
+ Review, approve, and perform accounting functions as needed—this is a roll-up-your-sleeves environment.
+ Play a significant role in the implementation of SAP or other large ERP systems (multiple large ERP system experience required).
+ Utilize advanced Excel functions (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, etc.) in daily accounting tasks.
+ Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and applicable regulations.
+ Work closely with leadership to support financial initiatives and reporting needs.
Requirements
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA preferred but not required.
+ 7+ years of accounting experience with at least 3 years in a management role.
+ Experience in large organizations ($300M+ in revenue) is a must.
+ Strong general accounting background; utilities industry experience is a plus.
+ Hands-on knowledge of SAP or SAP S/4 HANA preferred; must have experience with large ERP systems
+ Proficient Excel skills for accounting analysis and reporting.
+ Demonstrated ability to lead teams and still dig into the details when needed.
+ Publicly traded company experience is a plus but not required.
