    Job Title: Mechanical EngineerJob Description

     

    The Mechanical Engineer will lead the design of various auxiliary hydraulic, pneumatic, and cooling water systems for hydroelectric turbine units, ensuring successful integration with other systems by collaborating with interfacing engineers from mechanical and electrical disciplines. The role involves directing and performing drafting work associated with system designs and creating written specifications for the design, manufacture, and installation of hydraulic governor equipment, cylinders, pressure vessels, and auxiliary systems/skids. Additionally, the engineer will specify pumps, motors, valves, fittings, oil, instrumentation, and other components necessary to meet contract requirements and industry standards.

    Responsibilities

    + Lead the design of auxiliary hydraulic, pneumatic, and cooling water systems for hydroelectric turbine units.

    + Collaborate with mechanical and electrical interfacing engineers to ensure successful system integration.

    + Direct and perform drafting work related to system designs.

    + Create written specifications for hydraulic governor equipment, cylinders, pressure vessels, and auxiliary systems/skids.

    + Specify pumps, motors, valves, fittings, oil, instrumentation, and other components to fulfill contract requirements and industry standards.

    Essential Skills

    + Proficiency in AutoCAD and NX for 3D modeling and piping design.

    + Strong mechanical engineering skills with a focus on power generation systems.

    + Project management capabilities.

    + 5+ years of experience in mechanical design of heavy industrial components.

    + Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Previous experience in designing and working on hydraulic systems.

    + Working knowledge in capital equipment, welding, custom fabrication, and piping.

    + NX proficiency preferred.

    Work Environment

    The position offers a hybrid work schedule with three days in the office, supporting a long-term opportunity in the energy industry focused on hydro power units. The local team in Charlotte consists of 12 engineers who provide support across various groups, including turbines/generators, controls/automation, and mechanical engineering for power systems. The role presents an opportunity for cross-training with the turbines/generator side of the business once the candidate is familiar with power systems.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $52.00 - $55.00/hr.
