    Job Description: Lead Process Engineer

     

    The Lead Process Engineer will be responsible for the design and layout of fluid process systems, ranging from a single piece of equipment to a complete plant. The role involves handling projects from concept through process design, equipment sizing and specification, installation, and start-up and commissioning. Effective communication with team members, including contractors, consultants, vendors, and clients, is essential to coordinate all aspects of the project.

    Responsibilities

    + Design and layout fluid process systems for various applications.

    + Maintain knowledge of batching, processing, packaging, CIP/COP, pasteurization, filtration, and heat exchangers.

    + Understand the design of steam, condensate, glycol, tower water, and city water systems.

    + Identify proper pumps and valving components for each application.

    + Demonstrate understanding of instrumentation and controls.

    + Develop mass balances, process flow diagrams (PFD), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), utility/equipment matrices, timelines, SOPs, and performance specifications for process equipment.

    + Develop Request for Quotation (RFQ) documents.

    + Identify and analyze process improvements, implementing action plans.

    + Interact with equipment vendors.

    + Work within established engineering policies and procedures to ensure proper treatment of customers.

    + Travel to customer locations to maintain contact, obtain project-related information, and respond to needs.

    + Requisition or purchase essential parts and equipment.

    + Manage or supervise field personnel for work performed at customer plants.

    Essential Skills

    + Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering, or 8-10 years of related experience.

    + 5+ years of experience in fluid processing, preferably in regulated dairy.

    + Knowledge of USDA or FDA regulations.

    + Experience with capital projects, including quoting, procurement, installation, and commissioning.

    + Ability to manage situations such as piping problems, efficiency issues, and line layouts.

    + Proficiency in 3D modeling using Solidworks or Inventor.

    + Experience in calculating heat loads and engineering cooling and heating elements.

    + Proficiency in AutoCAD for 2D modeling of plant layouts.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Yogurt manufacturing experience is a plus.

    + Experience with process optimization, MES, and automation systems.

    + Knowledge of Dairy 3A, USDA, and FDA guidelines.

    + Proficiency in internet software and Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Project, and Outlook.

    + Strong teamwork skills and excellent verbal and written communication.

    + Proficient in AutoCAD with Isometric capabilities.

    + Strong interpersonal skills and valid US Driver’s License.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $57.69 - $76.92/hr.
