    About Queens Community House (QCH):

    Position Summary:

    Queens Connect is a workforce development collaboration among four community-based organizations: Queens Community House, Ocean Bay CDC, Jacob Riis Neighborhood Settlement, and Sunnyside Community Services.

     

    We are seeking a qualified Culinary Instructor with a strong commitment to youth development and the culinary arts. The Culinary Instructor will facilitate a 6-week culinary training and support participants with food protection certification preparation.

     

    This role plays a key part in preparing participants for entry-level employment in the food service industry.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    + Deliver weekly culinary lessons using curriculum provided by the National Restaurant Association (NRA).

    + Teach food and kitchen safety, food preparation, and healthy cooking principles.

    + Choose or adapt recipes that promote nutrition, food budgeting, and preparation techniques.

    + Assign hands-on kitchen tasks to support skill development.

    + Supervise and mentor participants during cooking sessions.

    + Facilitate group discussions to reinforce lessons and help participants reflect on behavior changes and potential barriers.

    + Collaborate with program staff including Case Manager, Workforce Trainer, Business Services Specialist, and interns.

    Qualifications:

    + Professional culinary training or experience in the food industry (chefs, caterers, culinary instructors, restaurant owners, etc.).

    + Minimum 4 years of experience working with youth or in youth development programs.

    + Experience working with diverse and low-income populations.

    + Comfortable speaking in front of groups (average class size: 15).

    + Ability to travel to program locations.

    + Willingness to be trained on Queens Connect program standards and operate as part of a collaborative team.
