Under the supervision of the lead worker Engineer Supervisor team or Engineer Technician DCL, this position is responsible for conducting the unit's laboratory and field research program in response to DOTD's objectives, and in response to problems of extraordinary difficulty by serving as lead worker for the Asphalt Lab Research Unit of the Louisiana Transportation Research Center.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance will substitute for the high school diploma or GED.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
As an Engineering Technician 1-4, under the supervision of the lead worker Engineer Supervisor team or Engineer Supervisor team or Engineer Technician DCL, this position is responsible for conducting the unit's laboratory and field research program response to DOTD's objectives, and in response to problems of extraordinary difficulty by serving as lead worker for the Asphalt Lab Research Unit of the Louisiana Transportation Research Center.
+ Conduct of research activities; conducts work plans and executes the research program to accomplish all research
tasks and formal studies in response to complex engineering problems; collects and analyzes data in the pavements related research area involving the use of sophisticated and highly specialized equipment such as Superpave binder tests, Superpave mixture test, repeated load creep analysis, asphalt pavement analyzer, rut wheel tracking devices; uses independent judgment based on experience and knowledge in the unit's area of responsibility in the laboratory and field collection of data; delivers analysis of data in completed format ready for reporting or presentation; with broad supervision from the ET 6 OCL or ET5; and assists with new concepts and procedures using the latest technology available and develops new tests and procedures to solve non-routine problems.
+ Provides oversight and trains lower-level staff in the conduct of technical assistance and formal research program activities: schedules work teams to address individual study work plans, such teams may be composed of lower-level technicians, research associates, graduate students, undergraduate or technicians from other research units; performs duties necessary for the efficient operation of the geotechnical unit in achieving its research program goals including: attaining American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials laboratory accreditation where required; completing the state co-operative testing program; maintenance of vehicle logs; and ordering and receiving equipment and supplies.

Work Schedule: Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday Some night time, weekend, and holiday work may be required.
Career Progression: This position(s) may be filled from this recruitment as an Engineering Technician 1, 2, 3, or 4 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).
Compensation: This position is eligible for premium pay of up to $2.00 per hour.
Engineering Technician 1- Starting salary is $12.22/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 2- Starting salary is $14.00/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 3- Starting salary is $16.03/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 4- Starting salary is $18.35/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
