    We're looking for aHuman Resources Specialist to provide critical support and advanced-level duties in the area of performance management and discipline. Incumbent counsels managers and supervisors regarding the documentation of substandard performance/behavior, and the use of such documentation within the progressive discipline structure to correct performance or attendance/behavior issues. This position reviews drafts of disciplinary letters and makes recommendations for changes to strengthen and ensure sufficient documentation in support of proposed action. Incumbent may provide assistance in conducting administrative and disciplinary investigations. Incumbent also reviews annual performance evaluations and maintains all pertinent information in the LaGov system. This position acts as backup to unemployment claims, which includes completing and submitting requested information and facilitating the appeal process. In addition, this position is responsible for conducting various trainings for supervisors, managers, and Appointing Authorities; as well as gathering the necessary and required documentation for all requests for information.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Six years of human resources experience; OR

    Six years of full-time experience in any field plus three years of human resources experience; OR

    A bachelor’s degree plus three years of human resources experience; OR

     

    An advanced degree in human resources, business administration, public administration, industrial and organizational psychology, organizational behavior, or a Juris Doctorate plus two years of human resources experience.

    EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

    Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

     

    Designation as a Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), Professional in Human Resources (PHR), or a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) will substitute for a maximum of one year of the required experience.

    Job Duties and Other Information

    Job Duties:

    + May assist in determining whether discipline is necessary.

    + May manage, administer and ensure Department's compliance with Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

    + May analyze and process Worker's Compensation claims.

    + May facilitate reasonable accommodations and process Americans with Disabilities (ADA) accommodation requests.

    + Launch plannings and evaluations in CPM.

    + Process unemployment claims and facilitate the unemployment hearing process.

    Position-Specific Details:

    Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment

     

    Work Schedule: Typically, work hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday. Flexible work schedules are available after meeting certain criteria and is dependent upon the position you are applying for. Some positions require working shifts.
