PURPOSE:

The purpose of the Senior Data Engineer is to design, orchestrate, and maintain scalable data infrastructure, whether cloud-based or on-premises to support enterprise-wide analytics and decision-making. This role is pivotal in transforming raw data into structured, actionable insights by developing robust data pipelines, managing data lakes and warehouses, and ensuring high-performance data access. Senior Data Engineers also lead efforts in data modeling, automation, and quality assurance, while collaborating across teams to align data solutions with business goals. Their work enables the organization to harness data as a strategic asset, driving innovation, operational efficiency, and informed decision-making.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Production Change and Release Management

o Senior BIA members are expected to manage production changes through the ITSM platform. This includes:

Submitting and tracking change requests.

Coordinating with the release and deployment team.

Ensuring all change tasks are properly documented and approved before deployment.

Application and Environment Oversight

o Lead or support application-specific initiatives, such as:

Administering tools like Power BI, Databricks and Snowflake.

Overseeing server transitions (e.g., from legacy 2008 hardware) and remediating application vulnerabilities.

Managing environmental metrics and ensuring system sustainability.

Process Automation and Optimization

o A key function is identifying and implementing process improvements:

Automating recurring tasks (e.g., month-end processes using CA7 jobs).

Training end users on new automation workflows.

Reducing manual intervention through scripting and scheduling.

Documentation and Knowledge Sharing

o Senior members are responsible for:

Maintaining up-to-date documentation for all tasks and processes.

Leading training sessions to ensure team-wide comprehension of changes.

Leadership and Delegation

o They are expected to:

Lead project teams and delegate tasks effectively.

Provide oversight and mentorship to junior team members.

Serve as role models by projecting commitment to quality and accountability.

Cross-Team Collaboration

o Senior BIA members frequently collaborate with other departments:

Supporting data migration and tool rationalization efforts (e.g., transitioning from MicroStrategy to Power BI).

Participating in user access audits and workspace management.

Behavioral Expectations

o Across multiple evaluations, senior team members are recognized for:

Strong organizational understanding of how their work supports broader company goals.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Position does not have direct reports but is expected to assist in guiding and mentoring less experienced staff. May lead a team of matrixed resources.

QUALIFICATIONS:

**Education Level:** Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Engineering or related field OR in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.

**Experience:** 5 years Experience with database design and developing modeling tools. Experience developing and updating ETL/ELT scripts. Hands-on experience with application development, relational database layout, development, data modeling.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

+ Knowledge and understanding of at least one programming language (i.e., SQL, NoSQL, Python).

+ Knowledge and understanding of database design and implementation concepts.

+ Knowledge and understanding of data exchange formats.

+ Knowledge and understanding of data movement concepts.

+ Strong technical and analytical and problem solving skills to troubleshoot to solve a variety of problems.

+ Requires strong organizational and communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to handle multiple priorities.

Salary Range: $96,048 - $190,762

This compensation range is specific and considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilites of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, internal peer equity, and market and business consideration. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of the range, as compensation decisions depend on each case's facts and circumstances, including but not limited to experience, internal equity, and location.
