Job Title: Excavator Operator

Job Description

As an Excavator Operator, you will be responsible for digging trenches to the proper depth and grade, ensuring safety through proper sloping or protection. You will also backfill holes and compact earth to prepare for construction, while avoiding potential hazards and obstructions. Your role involves the placement of water, storm, and sanitary sewer pipe in excavations and assisting with traffic control setups.

Responsibilities

+ Dig trenches to the correct depth and grade with safety measures.

+ Backfill holes and compact earth for construction preparation.

+ Avoid hazards such as utility lines, other equipment, workers, and falling objects.

+ Place water, storm, and sanitary sewer pipes in excavations.

+ Familiarize with digging plans, machine capabilities, and safe procedures.

+ Observe hand signals and markings for work specifications.

+ Safely operate machines and perform minor maintenance.

+ Assist in placement, moving, and dismantling of traffic control items.

Essential Skills

+ Proficiency in operating excavators and heavy equipment.

+ Experience with dozers and heavy utility operations.

+ 1-3 years of experience in heavy equipment operation.

+ Experience with pipe, trench work, and utility installation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Reliable transportation.

+ Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

+ Willingness to work Monday to Saturday if required.

+ Extensive physical ability.

Work Environment

Work primarily outdoors, regardless of weather conditions. The role involves 50-60 hours a week, typically during the day shift.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chesapeake, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $34.00/hr.
