Job Description
Do you enjoy working in the survey field and want to coordinate the work and schedule of the survey crew in District 3 while also performing work in the field? We are looking to hire a Survey Party Chief in Northwest Iowa! You can report to either the District office in Sioux City or the Construction office in Cherokee.
This position will foster growth and support for its reporting team through the core values of the department. As a people leader, this position will be responsible for aligning the efforts of commitment, transparency, accountability, and ethical behavior of its team. This position assists the supervisor by performing such duties as instructing employees, answering questions, distributing and balancing the workload, and checking work; may make suggestions on selection, promotions, and reassignments. All activities should be in direct relation to the department's core values and goals as laid out in its business plan.

Location : Sioux City District office or Cherokee RCE office
Shift Requirements : 6:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., Monday-Thursday, some travel required.
As a Survey Party Chief , your duties will include, but are not limited to:
+ Works as a part of a surveying team
+ Land Survey
+ Boundary Survey
+ Construction Survey
+ Topographic Survey
+ Documentation of survey activities
+ Preserving and restoring control points
+ Create corner certifications
+ Operates and maintains survey equipment
+ Conducts research required for surveys
+ Respond to request for a survey from district staff
Additional Requirements:
+ Must possess and maintain a valid Iowa Class C Non-Commercial Operator's License

Minimum Qualification Requirements
The equivalent of four years of full-time engineering survey experience which included the operation of electronic and mechanical survey instruments;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting the equivalent of thirty semester hours of college, university, or technical school course work in civil engineering, construction engineering, or photogrammetry for one year of the required experience with a maximum substitution of four years;
OR
employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes the equivalent of twelve months of full-time experience as an Assistant Survey Party Chief.

Additional Qualification Requirements
+ Designated positions in this class require possession of a valid Commercial Learner's Permit upon hire. Within a timeframe determined by the appointing authority, a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with the required endorsements and applicable restrictions must be obtained and subsequently maintained in order to continue employment.
+ If a CDL is not required, all positions are required to have and maintain a minimum of a valid Class C Non-Commercial Operator's License.
+ In conjunction with Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations (parts 40 and 382), designated positions in this job class require a pre-employment drug screen and will require ongoing participation in the employer's random drug and alcohol testing program and will be subject to the regulations regarding the Federal drug and alcohol testing program.
+ Prior to starting employment, all persons are required to have a post offer pre-employment physical verifying the physical ability to perform the duties described.
+ Employees must be able to travel and may be required to stay away from home overnight during assignments.
+ Employees in designated positions must be able to work up to 16 consecutive hours.
