POSITION SUMMARY:
Marathon Petroleum Company LP is seeking a Lead Category Manager to oversee Scaffolding, Insulation, Painting & Abatement (SIPA) and Crane Services across its Refining and Midstream assets enterprise wide. This position is available at multiple locations, including Findlay, OH; San Antonio, TX; Galveston Bay Refinery (TX); Garyville Refinery (LA); and Los Angeles Refinery (CA).
The Lead Category Manager will report through the Reliability Services Category Management team, which supports all major industrial contractor service categories to ensure a holistic and consistent approach across the organization. Key focus areas include supplier relationship management, cost optimization, contract strategy, and cross-functional collaboration. This role plays a critical part in delivering enterprise-wide value, enhancing operational efficiency, and driving long-term supplier performance.
KEY RESPONSIBILTIES:
• Manages assigned categories to optimize the supply base and deliver maximum value to the Business.
• Identifies and executes value delivery (cost savings, cost avoidance, revenue enhancement) and risk reduction opportunities within assigned categories.
• Analyzes and interprets data for use in decision-making and actions in support of category strategy, including TCO and should cost modeling.
• Develops, implements, and manages category strategies with focus on the value proposition, commercial agreement execution and administration.
• Develops and manages strategic partnerships with internal and external Stakeholders; to include collaboration with Stakeholders to align on category strategies, understand the demand/spend profile of risks and Business requirements.
• Develops and manages KPIs for measuring performance for key Suppliers. Facilitate issue resolution related to Supplier performance.
• Leads utilization and performance assessments to confirm strategies are effective and strategic Suppliers are meeting and exceeding expectations.
• Identifies and leads strategic sourcing projects within assigned categories, analyze business objectives, develop project plan and charter, lead and/or facilitate cross functional teams to ensure milestones are met, track project progress and monitor performance against plan, facilitate meetings, prepare reports and presentations to communicate status.
• Collaborates with stakeholders to understand the demand/spend profile of assigned category and sub- categories. Responsible for the strategy development to mitigate risks and to ensure best in class support for our ongoing business requirements.
• Mentors Category Analyst to ensure all aspects of the category strategy are being executed.
minimum QUALIFICATIONS:• Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred fields of study include Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, and/or Operations Management.
• Six (6) or more years of Supply Chain or business relevant experience
+ This position requires 30% travel to support site engagements and supplier relationship development across Multiple locations.
+ Experience in Refining and/or Midstream Operations, Legal Contracting, Industial Contractor Services, Project Procurement and PowerBI Tools are highly preferred.
