The Assistant Professor (Clinical) will:
• Teach and coordinate educational interactions within the Patient Evaluation I, II, and III courses.
• Serve as lead instructor for physical examination skills through both lectures and small group lab sessions.
• Oversee physical examination and OSCE assessments at the Kado Clinical Skills Center.
• Facilitate procedural skills labs, including instruction in suturing, venipuncture, and bladder catheterization.
• Be assigned additional teaching within the program/department/college, as appropriate and directed by the program director.
• Provide academic advising to students.
• Participate in admissions activities, including interviews and applicant evaluation.
• Serve on committees at the Program, Department, and College levels as appropriate.
• Participate in community service initiatives as assigned.
• Attend and contribute to regular Program, Department, and College meetings.
• Demonstrate a willingness to engage in scholarly activity as appropriate to the role.
Unique duties:
The Assistant Professor (Clinical) will: Work collaboratively with a small instructional team under the direction of the Patient Evaluation course director and Program Director. Engage with alumni, guest lecturers, and community partners to enhance course content and clinical relevance. Contribute to scheduling and coordination of didactic-year patient encounter site-visits and clinical teaching activities.
Qualifications:
• Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited PA program or related accredited healthcare program. Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies or equivalent based on professional experience.
• Current NCCPA certification (if a PA) and Michigan licensure (or eligibility for licensure).
• Minimum 2–3 years of full-time clinical experience as a Physician Assistant or comparable healthcare clinician.
• Prior experience in higher education, including teaching, course coordination, or clinical precepting.
• Strong interpersonal and team-based communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work within a collaborative academic environment.
Preferred qualifications:
5+ years of clinical practice experience. 3+ years of experience teaching or coordinating curriculum in higher education. Evidence of leadership contributions and/or scholarly productivity.
