    Description of Duties:

    The Senior Director of the newly formed Office of Workforce Development will lead SUNY Poly's workforce development initiatives, which may include credit and non-credit courses, online courses, special institutes and workshops, apprenticeships, short courses for professional, business, and community organizations, internships, co-ops, and career service placement for students, outreach to K-12 schools, engagement with workforce development organizations and consortia, grant applications, and general interest programs in the Mohawk Valley and beyond. Through collaboration with campus and community stakeholders, the Senior Director will lead the creation of a strategy to expand the impact of the Office of Workforce Development.

     

    Responsibilities will include the development and maintenance of external relationships with private and public organizations for purposes of identifying and promoting their continuing education, workforce, and training needs. The Senior Director also will design appropriate programs, ensure proper budgeting, marketing, staffing, financial, equipment and space resources, and evaluate and assess programs to ensure compliance and reporting requirements are satisfied. Reporting to the Vice President for External Relations, this position will work collaboratively with Academic Affairs, Advancement, Student Affairs, Office of Admissions, Communications and Marketing, Office of Research, Business Office, the Office of the President, and other departments, as well as members of the surrounding business community, municipal officers, social and civic organizations, and state and national-level entities that promote workforce development and lifelong learning.

     

    + Act as a liaison with professional, business, and community organizations that seek education, training, and workforce development programs, and direct the implementation of programs, publicity, and the fiscal requirements of the Office of Workforce Development to ensure that contracted services are provided

    + Create and execute a strategy to develop, market, and deliver new programs that advance the mission and vision of the campus and support the workforce development needs of the region

    + Supervise Student/Graduate Assistants and staff working in support of the Office's mission. Provide leadership, oversight and direction to direct reports to assure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices are consistent with and contribute to the Institution's goals and strategies. Design and implement operating strategies, plans and procedures to assure smooth functioning of SUNY Poly's Office of Workforce Development. Lead employees for maximum performance and dedication. Complete performance management feedback and goals per requirements

    + collaborate with the Office of Marketing and Communications to promote accomplishments of the Office to the media and other stakeholders, with the goal to broaden recognition of such work and further develop a base of support within the community

    + Other reasonable duties as assigned

     

    Salary Range: $115,000 - $125,000

    Reporting Relationships:

    Senior Director will supervise 2-3 staff members in the Office of Workforce Development

    Job Requirements:

    Minimum Requirements:

    + Master's degree from college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization or significant professional experience in relevant discipline or field of work, and five years of relevant work experience.

    + Formed well-established relationships with industry, community partners

    + Demonstrated ability to learn the needs of partners in the community and on the SUNY Poly campus

    + Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team

    + Demonstrated ability to work well with faculty and administrators

    + Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed

    + Strong organization, project management and facilitation skills

    + Ability to enter, monitor and interpret events data accurately

    + Excellent written and oral communication skills

    + Strong computer skills; and aptitude to learn new systems as needed

    + Experience managing staff within a unionized environment.
