JOB SPECIFICS
*This is a temporary position that requires recent MN-WIC experience*
The Community Nutrition Specialist will work as a part of the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program at the Government Center in Stillwater and at the three service center locations in Woodbury, Cottage Grove and Forest Lake. Examples of work include providing individual nutrition assessment and counseling to pregnant women, and families; performing technical procedures such as finger sticks, heights and weights; and documentation in the electronic WIC database. Additional clinic support duties will be assigned based on skills, experience and program needs.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:
+ Registered Dietitian, or RD eligible; minimum 4-year degree in Nutrition or related field
+ Prior work experience with WINNIE documentation system
+ Bilingual abilities
+ Previous work experience with pregnant women, infants. children or families
+ Prior experience providing Breastfeeding Education & support
SELECTION TECHNIQUE: Your training and experience will be rated based on the required application material submitted and the top-scoring candidates will be forwarded to the hiring department for further consideration.
ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE: $31.06 - $42.36 Hourly
HOURS / DAYS: Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. This is a part- time temporary position. The successful candidate will work in-person 1-2 days per week. Work location and hours are subject to change based on department needs.

JOB SUMMARY
The Community Nutrition Specialist promotes and provides nutrition programs and education to support available comprehensive public health program aimed at the promotion and maintenance of health and the prevention of disease.
EMPLOYMENT CRITERIA
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in dietetics or food science and nutrition and one-year full-time experience in nutrition or dietetics in a public health agency, or equivalent.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A Dietetic Registration (RD) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration is desired. A Master's Degree in public health nutrition is desirable but does not substitute for experience.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide nutrition services:
• Perform a variety of individual health assessments;
• Make referrals to health care providers;
• Develop and implement patient nutrition care plans;
• Document all nutritional services provided; and
• Provide targeted educational presentations and programs.
Act as lead worker in WIC clinic:
• Orient and train new employees;
• Provide performance feedback to a program supervisor;
• Perform technical medical procedures;
• Provide education, consultation, and outreach to medical providers, county staff, and individuals on issues pertinent to nutrition, nutritionist role and its impact on health status;
• Compile and prepare sections of annual reports, WIC nutrition education plans, WIC grant applications and reports, program evaluations and other documents as assigned; and
• Develop, review and select client education materials related to nutrition and health promotion as resources for WIC, department staff and multiethnic populations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work performed is semi-sedentary in nature, and typically performed within a WIC clinic or in the field. Lifting requirement of up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis. Equipment used may include, but is not limited to, medical equipment, computer, calculator, telephone, camera, and copier/scanner/fax machine.
Must have means of reliable transportation for business purposes; individuals operating a motor vehicle for county business must possess a valid driver's license.
Work interruptions are frequent. There is some pressure associated with serving individuals who may be emotionally charged and with project or activity deadlines and details.
