    What are we looking for?

     

    The SJCS AI Innovation Fellowship for Emerging Leaders is a part-time fellowship at St. John’s Community Services (SJCS), designed for an ambitious first- or second-year undergraduate seeking to improve workflow efficiency through generative AI and machine learning. The Fellow will gain hands-on experience in workplace technology, talent development, and business analytics.

     

    The AI Innovation Fellow will remotely support SJCS teams across multiple states, working on technical projects to boost innovation and efficiency. The fellow will also lead key trainings on new AI models and provide education to staff on integrating these tools into their workflows.

     

    Working alongside executive team members and other student Impact Fellows, the AI Innovation Fellow will analyze departmental workflows, develop technical solutions, and create instructional materials to help staff adopt generative AI. This role offers a unique chance to learn from seasoned nonprofit leaders and contribute to an organization with a 150-year legacy of community service.

     

    Ideal candidates are talented, self-motivated, and eager to learn. Experience with generative AI, LLMs, and/or machine learning is important, as is a passion for social impact and leadership development in the nonprofit sector. This fellowship is an excellent stepping stone for those seeking a career at the intersection of technology and social impact.

    Your overall essential responsibilities may include the following:

    + Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather insights and analyze data on existing workflows

    + Create and lead team-specific online learning sessions on leveraging generative AI to optimize departmental tasks

    + Support business development initiatives through leading seminars on effective and ethical generative AI usage

    + Prepare reports, presentations, and data visualizations for leadership meetings , professional development trainings, and external stakeholders

    + Support the organization's thought leadership efforts through research and content development

    + Assist with executive-led special projects

    + Learn about SJCS's operations across all five states to develop a comprehensive understanding of the organization

     

    Engagement Model

     

    + 10 hours per week commitment, fully remote, with flexible scheduling

    + 2 full academic semester commitment (Fall 2025-Spring 2026)

    + Weekly check-ins with supervisor and mentorship from executive team members

    + Participation in select leadership and department-level meetings

    + Collaboration with staff and Impact Fellows across departments and locations

    + Opportunities to represent SJCS at community events and professional development activities

     

    Key Performance Indicators

     

    + Quality and timeliness of research, analysis, and deliverables

    + Innovative contributions to workflow efficiency and technical development initiatives

    + Ability to work independently and collaboratively while maintaining alignment with organizational goals

    + Growth in leadership capabilities and professional skills

    + Positive feedback from team members and stakeholders

     

    Expected Deliverables

     

    + Well-researched and polished presentations on generative AI to deliver to key SJCS leadership

    + Instructional documents on proper usage of developed technical solutions

    + Contributions to strategic planning documents and implementation roadmaps

    + Regular progress reports on assigned projects

    + Final presentation summarizing fellowship experience and contributions

    Qualifications

    You will catch our eye if you have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

    + Required enrollment in an accredited college or university

    + Preferred graduation year of 2027, 2028, or 2029

    + Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail

    + Excellent written and verbal communication abilities

    + Proficiency with generative AI and teaching skills

    + Demonstrated interest in social impact, disability services, or community development

    + Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

    + Experience with project management and collaboration tools

    + Creative thinking and innovative approach to challenges

    + Passion for SJCS's mission of creating inclusive communities

    + Previous experience or coursework in computer science, data science, generative AI, LLMs, machine learning, education, or organizational leadership

    All SJCS employees must:

    + Obtain a valid health certificate to meet SJCS or current funding authority requirements as required.

    + Meet the SJCS and the funding authority's requirement of criminal background and record checks.

    + Work independently or as part of a team.
