    Job Description

    The Division of Environment and Planning aims to protect, restore, and expand New York City's green spaces and natural areas to maximize their benefits for environmental and community health and resilience. The Natural Resources Group within Environment and Planning manages over 12,000 acres of natural areas across the five boroughs, including forests, grasslands, and wetlands, and has secured tens of millions of dollars of grant from state, federal and private sources over the past decades to fund the restoration and management across these ecosystems.

    Major Responsibilities

    - Under the direction of Senior Staff in the Division of Environment and Planning with wide latitude for independent judgment and decision-making, supervise an experienced group of project managers and ecologists, including administrative oversight and disciplinary processes when necessary.

     

    - Oversee restoration and team operations including reporting, deliverables, standardization of workflows, and special initiatives and support Senior Staff in assigning projects and workloads.

     

    - Provide technical leadership in restoration practice and adaptive management and ensure that projects meet ecological goals. Serve as a consulted member of a project team on a range of restoration and program development projects.

     

    - Support planning and development of funding opportunities to advance resource management and restoration.

     

    - Serve as a senior project manager on complex natural resources projects as necessary, ensuring that projects meet ecological goals and are completed on time and within budget.

     

    - Synthesize complex technical information to inform decision-making.

     

    - Prepare clear reports, maps, and briefings and represent the Agency at meetings and present projects to agency stakeholders, other governmental agencies and departments, contractors and their representatives, consultants, community members and the general public.

    Qualifications

    1. For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.

    To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have:

    1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or

    2. A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or

    3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in "2" above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in "1" and "2" above.

    NOTE:

    Probationary Period

     

    Appointments to this position are subject to a minimum probationary period of one year.

    Salary Min: $ 95,000.00

     

    Salary Max: $105,000.00
