Pipefitter - San Diego, CA

Job Description

+ As a Pipefitter, you will be responsible for installing and maintaining ships' piping systems such as steam, heat and power, hot water, hydraulic, air pressure, and oil lines. You will follow blueprints, layouts, and work orders, using hand tools and shop machines to ensure the efficient and effective operation of these systems.

Responsibilities

+ Plan layout of pipe sections, taking into account specifications, obstructions, and necessary holes.

+ Cut and bore holes in bulkheads and decks for pipe installation.

+ Operate shop machines to cut and thread pipe and pipe fittings, including valves, traps, and thermostats.

+ Bend pipes to specified shapes using pipe-bending fixtures.

+ Bolt or weld brackets to support pipe systems.

+ Connect pipes to fixtures such as heat exchangers, laundry and galley equipment, pumps, tanks, and other ship equipment.

+ Repair, pack, and adjust valves.

+ Test installed systems for leaks and ensure they meet specifications.

+ Perform other related tasks as assigned, which may become essential to the position.

Essential Skills

+ Proficiency in pipefitting, including bending, burning, and the ability to read blueprints.

+ Minimum of 3 years of experience in marine piping systems.

+ Knowledge of silver brazing procedures and military specifications.

+ Ability to fabricate, install, and test marine piping systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Flexibility to work on 1st and 2nd shifts.

+ Ability to work independently and set up work areas with appropriate tools and materials.

Work Environment

+ You will be working at the NASSCO yard, supporting the new construction of vessels. The environment will involve both shop and onboard ship work, requiring the use of various tools and machines to complete tasks efficiently.

Job Type & Location

+ This is a Contract position based out of San Diego, California.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $42.00/hr.
