Position Summary:
The 5th Grade ELA Teacher will be responsible for delivering engaging and rigorous instruction aligned with the New York State Next Generation English Language Arts Learning Standards. The teacher will create a supportive classroom culture that fosters students' growth in reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills while preparing them for high school level coursework.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
+ Develop and implement dynamic lesson plans that align with REACH's curriculum and actively engage students through whole group and small group instruction.
+ Design differentiated instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students, including English Language Learners and students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
+ Incorporate a variety of instructional strategies, including the use of technology, to enhance student learning and engagement.
+ Develop students' reading comprehension, literary analysis, argumentative and narrative writing, vocabulary, and grammar skills.
+ Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment that supports students' academic and personal growth.
+ Assess and monitor student progress through formative and summative assessments; use assessment data to adjust instruction.
+ Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to develop interdisciplinary connections and support school initiatives.
+ Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and ways to support learning at home.
+ Consistently implement school-wide routines and classroom procedures with fidelity.
+ Submit lesson and unit plans punctually in accordance with school guidelines.
+ Engage fully in professional development sessions, instructional coaching, and collaborative team planning meetings.
+ Apply feedback from instructional coaches and leadership in a timely and constructive manner.
+ Analyze student data to inform instructional decisions and reflect regularly on teaching practices to support continuous improvement.
+ Carry out additional responsibilities and initiatives as assigned by the Head of School.
Qualifications:
Required:
+ Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field
+ New York State Teaching Certification in Elementary Education (Grades 1-6) or ELA or New York State Teaching Certification in English Language Arts Grades 5-9 extension (Initial or Professional Certification) preferred but not required
+ Strong content knowledge and a passion for teaching middle school students
+ Ability to build strong relationships with diverse learners
+ Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Preferred:
+ Master's degree in Education or a related field
+ Experience teaching English Language Arts at the middle school level
+ Familiarity with culturally responsive teaching practices and trauma-informed instruction
+ Experience integrating instructional technology into the classroom
Salary & Benefits:
In accordance with REACH Academy Charter School's salary step scale and verification of prior years of teaching. Step 1 starts at $45,000 and Step 11 is $65,830. You must have a valid teaching certificate to start on the salary steps or be working towards completion of certification.
