    Job Description:

    35% - Student Programming

    + Implement a comprehensive student engagement curriculum that supports the mission of the SEC.

    + Oversee direct outreach, development, and support for two or more categories of student organizations, their leaders, and their advisors.

    + Oversee the KU student commuter lounge.

    + Oversee the planning and development of biweekly student programs geared to connect and support Non-traditional students at KU.

    + Manage program budgets associated with student engagement programs.

    25% - Outreach

    + Lead the development and implementation of a communication plan to connect with Non-Traditional students across the five KU campuses.

    + Re-launch and advise the Non-Traditional Student Foundation, a registered student organization for KU non-traditional students.

    + Participate in campus-wide involvement fairs and orientation sessions to provide an overview of resources and engagement opportunities for non-traditional students.

    + Implement virtual outreach engagement opportunities to connect with non-traditional students.

    + Create and implement Non-Traditional Student Newsletter.

    + Launch Big 12 Non-Traditional Student Support Group, intended to connect with colleagues across Big 12 institutions who are supporting Non-traditional students or interested in learning about how to implement strategies on their respective campuses.

    + Manage program budget associated with marketing materials for Non-Traditional students.

    20% - Education and Research

    + Develop and implement workshops for registered student organizations including, but not limited to these topics: student organization registration process, event planning, budget management, fundraising, and history/heritage months.

    + Design ongoing training and communications strategies for registered student organization advisors. Ensure advisors receive regular training on risk management, conflict management, funding opportunities, and other Registered Student Organization Guidelines.

    15% - Assessment and Administration

    + Develop, monitor, and evaluate program learning outcomes. Ensure all registered student organization and community programming advances departmental, Student Affairs, and university learning outcomes; this includes the submission of monthly data points and identifying trends over time and projections for future needs.

    + Serve as a student engagement support specialist; attending recruitment fairs, pipeline programming and other marketing events to further SEC’s outreach efforts.

    + Host weekly office hours for student support meetings.

    10% - Supervision

    + Supervise and provide leadership, direction, training and support to one graduate assistant and/or undergraduate student staff.

    5% - Other Duties as Assigned

    + Serve on the Student Engagement Center, Student Affairs, and university-wide committees as needed.

    Required Qualifications:

    1. Master’s degree in higher education, college student personnel, educational leadership, counseling, social work, psychology, or a related field.

    2. One year of full-time experience working with college students through programs and services. Two years working as a Graduate Assistant will count towards one year of professional work.

    3. Experience developing and implementing educational materials, programs, and workshops.

    4. Applied knowledge of best practices and national trends impacting student involvement, engagement, and leadership development as demonstrated through work history.

    5. Experience that required collaborative work with a wide range of students, staff, faculty, administrators, and other members of the community as evidenced by application materials.

    6. Strong written communication skills as evidenced by application materials.

    7. Experience creating marketing materials and using social media in a professional setting.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    1. Two or more years of related experience in the following areas: student organizations and/or student engagement programs, knowledge of current issues in higher education, risk management policies and procedures and student development and other theoretical frameworks, and/or strategic development and project management.

    2. Experience with hiring evaluating, staff development and training within a post-secondary education setting.

    3. Experience with programming budgets, student organization funds, and/or basic accounting experience.

    4. Experience adhering to, and knowledge of, policies and procedures of a large university as evidenced by application materials.

    5. Experience developing, implementing, and assessing learning outcomes and strategic plans and priorities related to college student engagement.

    Position Overview:

    The Student Engagement Center at the University of Kansas serves as a hub for student involvement, leadership development, impact programs and resources, and community programs. Through the Student Engagement Center, KU students deepen their connection to each other and KU by exploring communities and opportunities to thrive during their Jayhawk experience. Students will _engage_ through registered student organizations, leadership experiences, and professional development workshops. The Center will _impact_ students by providing for direct needs in the Campus Cupboard, Pregnant and Parenting Pantry, clothing closets, and the Emergency Aid Network. Jayhawks will build _community_ as they connect with peers and engage in student support programs. The Student Engagement Center enhances existing programs by providing greater resources and deeper connections across Student Affairs.

     

    The Non-Traditional Student Program Coordinator for Community Programs is responsible for strengthening the KU student experience for non-traditional students defined as students who start college over the age of 24, commuter students, students with dependents, and part-time students. The Non-Traditional Student Program Coordinator will supervise graduate and undergraduate student staff to implement a dynamic outreach and student engagement experience. The Non-Traditional Student Program Coordinator for Community Programs engages with students, staff, faculty, alumni, and the community to extend the reach of the Student Engagement Center.

     

    The Non-Traditional Student Program Coordinator reports to the Associate Director of Community Programs in the Student Engagement Center. Student Affairs at the University of Kansas makes learning possible through programs and services designed to support students across their KU experience as they achieve their academic and personal goals. Student Affairs serves as an advocate for students across the University community.
