    Job Summary

    The Senior Vice President for Health Sciences Research Unit ( SVPHS Research Unit) at University of Utah Health is seeking a **Senior Manager (Research Development Associate III )** to lead and support a wide range of research development activities. This role is ideal for a motivated professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about advancing research excellence.

     

    The Senior Manager will play a key role in shaping and executing strategic research programs and initiatives that span disciplines and departments. Responsibilities include strategic planning, proposal development, team science facilitation, and fostering collaborations across the research enterprise. While this position will initially provide leadership for the Digital Health Initiative ( DHI ), the scope of work will extend to other emerging and ongoing programs that align with institutional priorities.

     

    This is a unique opportunity to contribute to transformative research efforts, build institutional capacity, and work closely with faculty, leadership, and external partners.

     

    The Senior Manager will be a part of the Research Program Development Team in the SVPHS Research Unit, which oversees the development and implementation of key research strategic initiatives. The Senior Manager will report to the Senior Director of Research Program Development and be part of a supportive, mission-driven team.

     

    This position is eligible for a hybrid telework and in-person schedule, in accordance with University policies.

    Responsibilities

    1. Organize and support strategic planning, execution, and evaluation of high-impact research initiatives.

    2. Manage initiative budgets and develop funding strategies.

    3. Identify research priorities and coordinate resources to support collaborative, interdisciplinary research.

    4. Serve as a liaison to internal and external stakeholders, including potential partners and sponsors.

    5. Support fundraising efforts in collaboration with advancement colleagues.

    6. Identify and promote funding opportunities from federal, foundation, and corporate sources.

    7. Coordinate and contribute to complex research proposals, including writing, team alignment, and compliance.

    8. Oversee internal seed grant programs to catalyze innovative research.

    9. Support educational and training initiatives, including workshops and curriculum development.

    10. Organize research community-building events such as symposia and networking sessions.

    11. Oversee communications and marketing efforts for strategic initiatives.

    12. Collaborate with government relations and communications teams to share research impact.

    13. Contribute to broader institutional initiatives and mentor junior staff.

    14. Hire, train, and supervise staff as needed.

    Master’s Degree **or** Bachelor’s degree + four years of related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).

    + MS or PhD (life sciences or computational field preferred)

    + 2+ years of relevant program development experience
