    Essential Functions:

    The Staff Development Manager is a full-time, professional position reporting to the Head of Programs. In collaboration with Human Resources and all program departments, the Staff Development Manager oversees the development and delivery of training for all staff at Shrub Oak International School. This includes direct supervision of Training Specialists, a Development Coach Supervisor, and Development Coaches.

     

    The Staff Development Manager will design and implement innovative, engaging, and flexible training programs for a 24/7/365 organization. These trainings will utilize various learning modalities (live, online, hybrid) and ensure that all content aligns with best practices in adult learning theory. The manager ensures that training translates to effective student engagement and ongoing coaching when necessary.

     

    The manager will also oversee compliance with learning systems such as Relias, ensure effective crisis training (e.g., TCIS), and implement systems to monitor performance and learning effectiveness across departments.

     

    With access to confidential information, discretion and sound judgment are essential in this role. The Staff Development Manager plays a critical part in growing internal talent, supporting performance improvement initiatives, and ensuring consistent, high-quality professional development across the organization.

    Key Responsibilities Include:

    + Lead the design and implementation of robust training programs across all departments

    + Deliver experiential and engaging content to adult learners aligned with organizational goals

    + Oversee the administration and compliance of the Relias Online Learning Management System

    + Manage TCIS (or similar) training and ensure staff compliance with crisis response protocols

    + Provide direct supervision, coaching, and performance evaluation for Training Specialists and Development Coach Supervisor

    + Facilitate weekly team meetings and maintain a strategic department schedule

    + Collaborate with Human Resources, department heads, and the Head of Programs to align training plans with organizational needs

    + Analyze training data, identify trends, and make strategic recommendations to improve staff learning and development

    + Stay current with trends in adult learning, instructional design, and staff development

    + Support departmental performance improvement plans through targeted training

    Requirements:

    Education & Experience:

    + Master’s degree in special education, a clinical field (mental health, OT, SLP, PT, etc.), or human services preferred; Bachelor’s degree with significant experience will be considered

    + Minimum 2 years of experience supervising staff working with autistic individuals in a residential setting (4+ years preferred)

    + Minimum 2 years of experience using crisis intervention systems (CPI, SCIP-R, TCI, etc.); trainer certification preferred

    + Minimum 2 years of experience coaching staff in one-on-one and group settings (5+ years preferred)

    + Minimum 2 years of experience designing and delivering experiential training content across platforms (live, online, hybrid) with a strong understanding of adult learning theory (5+ years preferred)

    Skills & Abilities:

    + High emotional intelligence and strong communication skills (oral and written)

    + Ability to deliver effective training to adult learners at all organizational levels

    + Strong data analysis skills to assess program outcomes and impact

    + Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities

    + Strong leadership and mentorship abilities with the capacity to provide clear and constructive feedback

    + Proficient in learning management systems, Microsoft Office, and other instructional platforms

    + Able to work collaboratively across departments with a customer-service mindset

    + Flexible, adaptable, and solutions-oriented

    + Able to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion

     

    Salary Range: 90k-95k

    Physical Requirements/Demands:

    Work regularly requires sustained concentration and managing multiple demands and deadlines. Sitting at a desk for extended periods, walking up/down stairs (6-floor building), and navigating a large campus as needed. May need to lift/move items up to 25 pounds.

    Work Environment:

    Work will primarily occur indoors in a professional educational environment. Occasional presence in residential or clinical settings may be required. The school is located on a 127-acre campus, and the building is accessible by stairs and elevators.
