    Primary Function:Employee will train to become a skilled crafts Welder/Fabricator through a four-year apprenticeship program which includes classroom learning and on the job training.

    Required Documents:

    + Fill out Welding Apprentice Application on website, ptius.net/careers

    + Letter of Application written by applicant telling us about yourself and your interest in a welding career.

    + Two letters of recommendation from a teacher, neighbor, employer, or family member.

     

    No applicant will be considered without all the required documents mentioned above.

     

    Apprenticeship Program/Timeline:Year 1Learn basic welding principles. Develop skills in GTAW (Tig) welding processes. Learn how to read fabrication prints. You will be working in a fabrication environment.

     

    Year 2Continue weld training by learning GMAW processes. You will continue working in the fabrication shop and further your skills.

     

    Year 3This year you will learn fabrication skills. Automated machinery will be a focus of training as you continue to increase your welding abilities.

     

    Year 4This is the capstone year where you will choose a path and receive specialized training.

     

    There is a four-year work commitment after your 4-year apprenticeship is complete.

     

    Promote and actively embrace the concept of a collaborative environment, with an emphasis on customer service, respect, and candor. Safety is a cultural value, and it must be promoted and enforced at all times.

     

    Minimum Qualifications/Experience:High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

     

    Must have a STAR Card (Real ID) Driver's License or current Passport.

     

    Apprentice may be required to travel as needed.

     

    Additional skills:Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a very dynamic environment - must have flexibility with an ability to focus.

    Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk, hear, and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and climb or balance. The job may require climbing of ladders and/or stairs. The employee will often lift heavy pieces of metal, work with arms overhead, torso twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, often for extended periods; the employee must frequently lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move weight above 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include strong visual acuity (with or without correction), color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Long hours (10 or more) are often scheduled, and job may require overtime and travel.

     

    Work Environment:While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, loud noises, tripping hazards, exposure to sparks, welding arc, and open flame. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, mild industrial chemicals, inclement weather, risk of electrical shock and vibration. It is essential for employees to maintain awareness of their surroundings and when required, wear the necessary PPE. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
