Responsibilities

+ Completes routine screening of cell specimens, reports results and documents daily workload records.

+ Processes specimens for analysis according to specifications related to the type of specimen.

+ Conducts quality control assessment, equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.

+ Assists in the collection and processing of fine needle aspiration specimens.

+ Assists with data collection or special projects as assigned.

+ Demonstrates in depth knowledge of the policies and procedures for patient preparation, sample requirements, specimen collection, and pre-analytical factors that affect sample quality.

+ Assists in documentation and submission of all required laboratory, departmental and staff statistics/reports.

Requirements

Education:

+ Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, medical laboratory scientist, human sciences or education qualifications as stated per CLIA requirements.

Preferred Credentials:

+ Cytotechnologist credentialed from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC).
