    Investigator

    About the Agency: The Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses (DOPL) provides consumer protection and public safety through its regulation of more than 250,000 licensees within more than 44 Boards and Commissions here in the great State of Idaho.

     

    ThisDOPL Investigatorposition is a great opportunity for a professional who's looking to provide consumer protection and public safety for all Idahoans.

    Example of Duties:

    + Plans, organizes, and conducts investigations of alleged violations for compliance with the professional and occupational regulatory acts and rules

    + Interviews witnesses and licensees

    + Compiles reports, statements, and supporting documentation

    + Evaluates and documents violations

    + Analyzes circumstances surrounding the complaints and allegations

    + Prepares detailed reports

    + Interprets and applies laws and regulations and explains them to others

    + Testifies in disciplinary hearings

    Minimum Qualifications

    Good knowledge of:

    + Investigative techniques and procedures

    + Interviewing techniques

    + Legal rights of citizens including due process rights

    + Collection and documentation of evidence

    Experience:

    + Interpreting, explaining, and applying laws and regulations

    + Conducting fact-finding interviews

    + Preparing detailed investigative reports and correspondence

    + Determining the scope of an investigation

    + Using basic office related computer programs

     

    Valid driver's license.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Experience testifying in disciplinary or other hearings

    + Completion of POST or equivalent state-sponsored law enforcement training (any level) OR military police school OR regulatory training such as CLEAR basic and specialized National Certified Investigator and Inspector Training (NCIT).

    Investigation activities include planning, organizing, and performing interviews at various sites such as homes, offices, jails, prisons, mental health facilities, nursing homes, crematories, or funeral homes where alleged violations for compliance have occurred; analyzing and evaluating evidence and testimony; preparing detailed, fact-based professional reports and correspondence; testifying in adversarial disciplinary hearings; interpreting and applying laws and regulations and explaining them to others. Incumbents may deal with uncooperative, angry, and sometimes violent persons.
