    LOCATION/UNIT: Wanakena, NY / Office of Sustainable Facilities and Operations - Trades

     

    TITLE/SALARY GRADE: Trades Generalist, SG-12

     

    DURATION: Permanent

     

    SALARY: $50,425 non-negotiable (Note: current or reconstructed salary for State employees in accordance with NYS Audit and Control)

     

    POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the operation, repair, maintenance, and installation of commercial, institutional and industrial electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems and equipment.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Activities and responsibilities will include:

    + Primary or Secondary operator of Water Treatment System, Type 2A.

    + Primary or Secondary operator of Wastewater Treatment Plant, Type 1A.

    + Maintain safety and emergency systems.

    + Repair and provide preventive maintenance for HVAC equipment as assigned.

    + Repair and upgrade plumbing as assigned.

    + Repair and upgrade electrical systems as assigned.

    + Maintain interior finishes as assigned to include carpentry, hardware and painting.

    + Assist with grounds work, road maintenance and snow removal as assigned.

    + Respond to trouble calls, manage and complete assigned work orders.

    + As required operate a motor vehicle to transport materials, equipment and personnel to job sites around campus and regional campuses.

    + May supervise semi-skilled and unskilled employees.

    + Must adhere to safe work practices.

    Job Requirements:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Non-competitive: four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.

     

    Must possess and maintain a valid NYS Driver License

     

    Must obtain, 2A Water and 1A Wastewater license within 2 years of employment and have continued credit hours to retain those licenses throughout employment.

     

    Preferred Professional Qualities

     

    + Working knowledge of standard trade practices, materials, and tools used in the trades.

    + Ability to use the tools, machines, equipment and materials of the trades.

    + Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

    + Ability to stand, stoop, bend and stretch for long periods of time and perform moderate to heavy labor and lifting.

    + Ability to climb ladders and work at heights on scaffolds and platforms.

    + Ability to train and supervise others.

    + Ability to adhere to safe work practices.

    + Obtain within 2 years a Wastewater Treatment Plant, Type 1A operator certificate and a 2A water filtration plant operator certificate. Once obtained, the ability to maintain a wastewater Treatment Plant, Type 1A and water filtration certificate 2A operator certificate.

    + Since the actions of other employees depend on the performance of the employee in this position, discipline for unreliable attendance is a factor that employer will consider when filing this vacancy.

    OPERATIONAL NEEDS:

    This is a full-time position (7:00 am - 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday). based on a 40-hour workweek. May be required to work overtime based on operational needs.
