Description
We are looking for a Software Development Manager for our Amazon Freight Operations Technology team, owning core technology that runs critical components of our Amazon Freight network.
As a Software Development Manager, you will be responsible for leading a multi-functional team of engineers to design, develop, test, and launch new features and products. You will lead the teams through a significant time of change, as Amazon Freight scales our technology. You will be part of a team owning core software that is crucial to our logistics network operations. You will be responsible for driving an engineering team's priorities based on a combination of data, customer anecdotes, and technical challenges to move the business forward. You will drive transformation within our logistics network to ensure we maintain visibility and meet our shipper delivery promises.
A day in the life
You will lead a team of SDEs and coordinate improvements across Amazon Freight as you own core operational systems and logistics management platforms for Amazon Freight. You will balance the needs of both internal and external stakeholders and customers as Amazon Freight services a variety of stakeholders. You will build long term strategy with your tech team and leadership teams to push our ability to service customers end to end without intervention and have a fresh opportunity to imagine how Generative AI can evolve our landscape.
About the team
Amazon Freight's Operations Technology team is striving to provide the best in class experience for our logistics operators. We have a diverse set of customers and stakeholders and you will have to balance solving unique customer problems with a broader vision of the long term extensibility of our business.
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
