Role Overview:
This position involves high-level accounting responsibilities across a large portfolio of commercial properties. The individual in this role will manage tenant accounts, support financial reporting cycles, and ensure billing and collections are accurate and timely. The ideal candidate has a strong analytical mindset, solid understanding of standard accounting practices, and experience working in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Maintain accurate tenant account records, investigating and resolving discrepancies proactively.
+ Process and record incoming payments, including rent and other charges.
+ Prepare monthly billing for commercial tenants, including rent, operating expenses, property taxes, and insurance.
+ Coordinate with internal teams to address and resolve tenant-related concerns.
+ Communicate directly with tenants regarding account or billing issues.
+ Review receivables and assess potential write-offs based on aging and history.
+ Ensure lease data is accurately entered and maintained following updates or acquisitions.
+ Reconcile monthly bank activity and monitor transactions.
+ Provide variance explanations and financial updates for assigned properties.
+ Complete annual reconciliations of shared property expenses (e.g., CAM).
+ Interpret lease agreements and ensure accounting treatment aligns with terms and policies.
+ Prepare balance sheet reconciliations as part of monthly and quarterly close.
+ Support and review work from accounting service teams.
+ Assist with internal and external audit requests as needed.
+ Review vendor invoicing for accuracy and proper coding.
+ Perform additional duties as required to support the team.
Experience and Skills:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
+ 3+ years of experience in property or lease accounting, preferably in a commercial real estate environment.
+ Experience with property management software (Yardi or similar systems preferred).
+ Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
+ Solid organizational and time management abilities in a fast-paced setting.
+ Effective communicator, both within internal teams and externally.
+ Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other core Microsoft Office tools.
