    Job Description:

    10-month position

    Academic Performing Arts Production Manager to serve the Theatre and Music Programs and companies/ensembles, with 80% dedicated to theatre and 20% to music.

    About the Programs:

    + The Theatre Program at Fairfield is a small but robust program, offering classes that serve the university core as well as the theatre major and minor. The program is committed to producing a season of theatre committed to student learning, hand-on experience, community building and a Jesuit commitment to social justice and radical hospitality.

    + The Music Program at Fairfield University offers academic classes, music lessons, and course credit for several ensembles, including Jazz Ensemble, Instrumental Ensembles (Band and Orchestra) and the University Glee Club. The Glee Club is a large, mixed chorus, and the parent organization for the Chamber Singers, Bensonians, and Sweet Harmony. The choirs perform on campus and on tour several times throughout the semester in concerts and at University events.

    **Main Responsibilities for Theatre** (~80% of the job):

    + Manage the annual operating budget for all theatre program productions, in conversation with faculty and staff.

    + Oversee and manage all personnel involved with theatre productions. Schedule and chair all production meetings and artistic meetings. Provide support to designers, stage management, staff, and adjunct faculty members as needed.

    + Schedule, organize, and facilitate all auditions, rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and the run of the show.

    + Create and manage an annual production calendar as well as a production communications platform (currently Slack) and oversee a schedule of shared performing arts spaces on campus.

    + Collaborate with faculty to locate and hire guest artists for production and teaching.

    + Collaborate with faculty to recruit students for productions, classes, and the Theatre major/minor.

    + Regularly meet with the staff and management of the Quick Center for the Arts, to manage ticket sales and revenue, front of house staff, and scheduling of shared spaces.

    + Oversee student ushers, front of house and other operational positions for production.

    + Apply for and procure rights to plays and musicals, ensuring that fees are paid.

    + Work with vendors to secure bids for equipment.

    + Organize receptions for opening night performances.

    + Oversee and manage all marketing endeavors: collaborate with faculty and students to generate all marketing materials, including traditional marketing print materials well as digital marketing and social media.

    + Liaise with university marketing to schedule production photos, videos and other opportunities to highlight the program through various Fairfield channels.

    + Collaborate with faculty to mentor student production interns and organize practicum credits with the Registrar.

    + Acknowledging that theatre production is an educational endeavor, work to include students in all aspects of production and administration, ensuring their growth as artists and scholars.

    **Main Responsibilities for Music** (~20% of the job):

    + Schedule on-campus space reservations for Glee Club’s rehearsals, sectionals, and coaching sessions.

    + In collaboration with the Director of Choral Music and Glee Club student leadership, create and/or design printed programs for the Glee Club’s major concerts, shepherding the process from conception to print.

    + Interface with production partners on behalf of the Glee Club for performance-related needs, including the staff of the Quick Center for the Arts, Mahoney Arena, and off-campus performance venues.

    + Coordinate storage and transfer of musical instruments and equipment to on- and off-campus performance venues.

    + Procure and maintain the supply of Glee Club uniform items.

    + Coordinate on-campus housing for musicians performing at events outside the academic year (e.g. Fall Orientation and Commencement).

    + Schedule and manage regular piano tunings for certain on-campus pianos.

    + Coordinate special events as needed and by mutual agreement.

    + Maintain regular communication, as related to job duties, with Director of Choral Music, Glee Club student leadership, the Glee Club accompanist, Glee Club Chaplain, Musical Assistant, and members of the faculty, staff, and administration in the Meditz College of Arts & Sciences, the Visual & Performing Arts Department, the Theatre Program, Student Life, and Campus Ministry.

    Requirements:

    + BA or BFA in Theatre required, MA or MFA in Arts/Theatre Management preferred.

    + Experience in theatre management and arts administration.

    + Experience in the academic arts sector and working with students.

    + Effective organizational, interpersonal and written/oral communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently, problem solve and carry tasks through to completion. Customer service attitude; interact respectfully with a wide range of people.

    + Ability to provide hands-on attention to curricular structures.

    + Facility with Microsoft Office and Adobe software, as well as Slack.

    + Possessing a clear understanding of theatre activities and schedules, such as: auditions, rehearsals, production meetings, tech rehearsals, receptions, etc.

    + Schedule must be flexible. Some nights required.

    + A valid driver’s license.
