    Salary range: $93,400 -$110,400 The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 13B- Represented Professional Research Series- FY. The salary range for this position is $93,400 -$110,400. “Off-scale salaries”, i.e. a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.

    Position description

    The UCLA Joint Institute for Regional Earth System Science and Engineering (JIFRESSE) invites applications for a position of Assistant Researcher whose research will focus on the application of remote sensing to coastal, watershed, and aquatic system resilience through active stakeholder engagement to co-develop science-based solutions. The research includes the following activities:

     

    • Remote sensing-based analysis of ocean color products in nearshore systems, focusing on coastal darkening and its impacts on kelp ecosystems

    • Investigation of wildfire impacts on regional water balances and water quality in coastal and inland aquatic systems

    • Remote sensing applications in river systems to monitor hydrologic and ecological changes

    • Partner and stakeholder engagement through workshops, trainings, and collaborative projects on wildfires, coastal resilience, and water system sustainability

    • Mentoring early career scientists and graduate students in Earth science applications

    Qualifications

    Basic qualifications

    Basic qualifications (required at time of application):

    • Appointee must possess a recent doctorate degree in the field of engineering, statistics, earth science, or related disciplines

    • Previous training and experience in remote sensing applications to coastal, watershed, and aquatic systems

    • Extensive knowledge and expertise in geospatial data analysis, environmental monitoring, and stakeholder engagement

    • Demonstrated experience organizing workshops, facilitating surveys, and supporting co-development of resilience strategies with community and agency partners

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
