Duties: The State University of New York at New Paltz seeks an effective, visionary leader to serve as Assistant Vice President for Student Engagement.
The Assistant Vice President (AVP) for Student Engagement is a senior leader within the Division of Student Affairs who provides vision, leadership, and strategic direction for a comprehensive student engagement and development portfolio. The successful candidate brings experience centered on student success through holistic student development and leadership, co-curricular learning, diversity, equity and inclusion, and career readiness.
This portfolio includes direct supervision and support of the following departments: Center for Student Media, Student Association, Career Resource Center and the Center for Student Engagement (Intercultural Resource Center, orientation and new student programs, student leadership and activities, community and civic engagement, and Student Union Building operations).
Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Assistant Vice President for Student Engagement joins the Assistant Vice President for Student Wellbeing in a senior student affairs team that provides strategic leadership to the 125+ staff of the Division of Student Affairs, with responsibilities including:
-Provide strategic and inclusive leadership to the Division of Student Affairs with a focus on the institution’s strategic plan, priorities and goals for student development, engagement and success-Support all departments in providing intentional opportunities for engagement and fostering a sense of belonging for all students-Ensure that departments are operating with best practices and data driven decision making-Serve as the Division of Student Affairs lead for assessment measures and budgetary planning-Represent the Division on institutional initiatives including strategic planning, accreditation and assessment
Qualifications: Required Qualifications:- Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, or related field.- Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive leadership experience in student affairs or a related area, including robust supervisory experience.- Demonstrated success in managing complex student-focused programs- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice in student engagement practices- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience collaborating across departments and with diverse student populations- Experience with data and assessment measures from collection, interpretation and implementation- Knowledge of student development theory and best practices in co-curricular learning
Preferred Qualifications:- Doctorate in Higher Education, Leadership, or related discipline- Experience working in a public higher education environment
