    Job Summary

    The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled work associated with the maintenance and repair of the college’s facilities and grounds.

    Essential Functions

    • Participates in the repair and maintenance of college equipment and vehicles using a variety of tools, materials, and equipment while maintaining required records, logs, and electronic work order system.(55%)

    • Installs, maintains or repairs electrical and plumbing systems with associated hardware.(20%)

    • Participates in grounds maintenance activities, including installing and maintaining landscaping, applying herbicides and pesticides, and maintaining parking lots. (5%)

    • Maintains fire alarms, sprinkler, and security systems. (5%)

    • Assists with carpentry and renovation projects as assigned. (5%)

    • Responds to emergency requests for repairs. (5%)

    • Other duties as assigned. (5%)

    Competencies

    • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials and practices of building and grounds maintenance

    • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures

    • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical and HVAC system maintenance and repair

    • Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs

    • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public

    • Oral and written communication skills

    • Ability to lift, push and carry heavy items

    • Ability to read, interpret and apply construction plans, specifications andblueprints

    • Must have a valid driver’s license

    Work Environment

    Maintenance Technicians often carry out many different tasks in a single day at any number of locations. They may work inside a single building or be responsiblefor the maintenance of many buildings, building systems, and provide help tostaff, faculty, and students as needed.

    Physical Demands

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.Maintenance Technicians may have to stand for long periods or lift heavy objects. These workers may work in uncomfortably hot or cold environments, in uncomfortable or cramped positions, or on ladders. The work involves a lot ofwalking, climbing, and reaching.

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

    This is a full-time position, mainly located on the Murphy (Waco) Campus. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Thursday, 7 am to 4:30 pm and Friday, 8 am until 12 pm. Depending on the needs of the college a Monday through Thursday schedule of four ten hours days may be approved. This position occasionally requires longer hours.

     

    Travel

     

    Travel to other campus locations is required, as needed.

    Required Education and Experience

    • A high school diploma or equivalent *and* One (1) year of experience in a skilled trade or building maintenance.

    Preferred Education and Experience

    • Two years working experience in a large-scale maintenance facility *or*five years’ experience in a skilled trade which would have enabled the

     

    applicant to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform maintenance duties.

    Salary/Benefits

    Annual Salary $39,187.20 Benefits include 13 paid state holidays, 10 hours vacation and sick leave earned per month, State retirement, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits Program

     

    A high school degree or GED *and* One (1) year of experience in a skilled trade (electrical, carpentry, plumbing) or building maintenance.
