Job Description:
Working with JCB staff and external contractors, the Associate Director for Digital Asset Management implements the John Carter Brown Library’s (JCBs) digital strategy and manages the JCB’s digital assets and environment including for collections and exhibitions. Located on the campus of Brown University, the JCB has one of the world’s most significant collections relating to the history of the early Americas particularly focused on printed books as well as maps and prints. The JCB is committed to full digitization of its collection and its bespoke platform, Americana, aims to be a leading example of synthesized digital content. The AD for Digital Asset Management is a crucial position requiring skill, expertise, and experience in both the scholarly and technical worlds, and carries responsibility for some of the library’s most sensitive projects with both scholarly and public audiences.
Education and Experience
+ Minimum requirements: MLIS or Phd in a relevant field.
+ At least 2 years of experience in digital humanities and/ or libraries required, with experience in digital materials of the early Americas, history and bibliography– strongly preferred.
+ At least 2 years of platform development and management experience required with asset integration and design experience preferred.
+ In addition to English, proficiency in a European or Indigenous language of the early Americas is preferred.
Job Competencies
+ Experience with digital humanities and libraries process and software to include project management (Miro preferred), development (Python), and library systems (Alma).
+ Experience with collaborative teamwork with external contractors for design and development.
+ Knowledge of the history of the early Americas.
+ Knowledge of the multilingual nature of the JCB’s collections and constituency.
+ Ability to work productively and collegially in a diverse workplace.
