    General Summary:

    Creates clear, accurate, and concise technical content by leveraging knowledge of technical writing principles, resources, and tools as well as various types of Qualcomm products and technologies. Edits, updates, and reviews content based on an understanding of project requirements to meet business goals and customer needs, in collaboration with other teams (e.g., Engineering, Business). Ensures technical content is standardized for ease of use by stakeholders and innovates on technical documentation creation process to align with industry standards and best practices.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Communications, English, or related field and 8+ years of experience writing and editing software and/or hardware documentation and content, or related work experience.

    OR

    Associate's degree and 10+ years of writing and editing software and/or hardware documentation and content, or related work experience.

    OR

    High School diploma or equivalent and 12+ years of writing and editing software and/or hardware documentation and content, or related work experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • 10+ years of experience writing and editing software and/or hardware documentation and content.

    • 4+ years of experience working in a large matrixed organization.

    • 4+ years in a leadership role with or without direct reports (only applies to positions with direct reports).

    • 2+ years of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership (e.g., Director level and above).

    • 2+ years of experience with programming (e.g., C, C++, HTML), computer architecture or systems.

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Creates and manages clear, accurate, and concise technical content; provides technical leadership to leverage knowledge of technical writing principles, resources, tools and a wide range of Qualcomm processes, products, and technologies.

    • Oversees and reviews edits and updates to various types of content across multiple teams leveraging an expert understanding of the content library and project requirements to ensure the strategic content goals of the functional area and customer needs are met.

    • Identifies complex technical gaps and errors, and defines writing standards for a set of product content and makes suggestions for improvement to stakeholders. Reviews technical content, identifies changes, and flags to team and other technical writers; provides feedback across teams.

    • Determines the scope and oversees the gathering and analysis of customer feedback and provides corrective actions that enhance document quality and customer usability.

    • Formats, publishes, and organizes technical content in a pre-defined structure or template to ensure document standardization, and to meet overall Qualcomm quality standards; coaches team to do the same.

    • Leads teams to incorporate and adapt to new tools, processes, and standards to increase efficiency and/or automate, keep up with industry standards and trends (e.g., online information delivery), increase content quality, and enhance document searchability.

    • Leverages expertise to model and encourage teams to develop and present technical content in an innovative way to increase customer usability; implements best solution. Pilots and trains team to incorporate innovative ideas/processes.

    • Works with individuals inside and outside of own function (e.g., Engineering, Business) to ensure technical content changes are integrated with other components of a specific project.

    • Manages team project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables for large, complex, and/or multiple projects.

    • Re-scopes projects, identifies resources, delegates work, and reviews the work of team members in order to address changing timelines or priorities.

    Level of Responsibility:

    • Works independently with little supervision.

    • Provides supervision to direct reports.

    • Decisions are more significant in their impact, influencing overall program or project success, finances, and/or the ability to meet objectives. Errors are not readily apparent due to the complexity of work process/product or time between decisions and results. Errors typically result in significant expenditure of time, resources, and funds to correct.

    • Requires verbal and written communication skills to convey complex and/or detailed information to multiple individuals/audiences with differing knowledge levels. Role may require strong negotiation and influence, communication to large groups or high-level constituents.

    • Has a moderate amount of influence over key organizational decisions (e.g., is consulted by senior leadership to make key decisions).

    • Most tasks do not have defined steps; simultaneous use of multiple mental abilities is generally required to determine the best approach; mistakes may result in significant rework.

    • Exceptional creativity is needed to innovate new ideas and develop innovative products/ processes without established objectives or known parameters.

    • Deductive and inductive problem solving is required; multiple approaches may be taken/necessary to solve the problem; often information is missing or conflicting; advanced data analysis and interpretation skills are required.

    • Occasionally participates in strategic planning within own area affecting immediate operations.

    Pay range** **and Other Compensation & Benefits** **:

    $70.30 - $105.46

     

    The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm.
