NOTICE OF VACANCY

POSITION : 1.0 FTE Building Maintenance Mechanic (2:00 PM - 10:00 PM)

START DATE: ASAP

RATE: $30.55/Hour (Annualized Hourly $63,788.40)

General Statement of Duties:

Performs a variety of skill-trades (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, masonry, and mechanical) maintenance tasks, and direction of work effort. The work may involve the operation of power equipment and of company or personal vehicles.

Distinguishing Features of the Class:

The work involves the responsibility for organizing, leading and performing of maintenance and repair of facilities within the school district and its satellites. The work is carried out in accordance with established procedures and involves the analysis of maintenance problems and the selection of appropriate solutions. Work is performed under the direct/general supervision of the Director of Facilities. Manages and directs work efforts of contractors, vendors and suppliers.

Examples of Work:(Illustrative only)

Performs skilled work in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, masonry, and mechanical tasks;

Provides direction, instruction and mentoring to a maintenance team;

Repairs: classroom furniture, office furniture, windows and screens, doors and door hardware, walls, floors, and other parts of a building;

Knowledge of keying and lock-smithing;

Installs and repairs windows, covering (i.e. shades), drop ceilings, school lockers, and other items;

Caulks the interior and exterior of a building, as needed;

Reconstructs classroom space, as needed;

Constructs bookshelves, display cases, and cabinets;

Operates power tools, equipment, and vehicles;

Knowledge of small engine repair;

Installs technology equipment, telephone equipment, clock systems, and supports hardware breakdowns;

Performs other related work as required.

Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:

Good and broad hands-on knowledge of the skill trades in order to perform routine building maintenance and repair; good mechanical aptitude; ability to follow moderate complex instructions and directions; ability to cooperate with and direct others; ability to read and interpret building plans; blue print specifications and construction documentation; good judgment; dependable; self-starter; tact; courtesy, physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or possession of a New York State High School Equivalency Diploma and five (5) years of combined experience in three (3) of the following five (5) skilled trades: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and masonry, plus three (3) years' experience providing foreman-level instructions and directions to a work team.

Special Requirement: Possession of valid NYS Class D driver's license at time of appointment and maintain such license throughout employment in this title.
