Position Description
TheSchool of Journalism and Mass Communication (https://www.masscomm.txst.edu/) at Texas State University invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice in Advertising to begin fall 2025. Successful candidates will share their industry experience with a strategic and creative community of Advertising students in an effort to prepare them for employment at the highest levels of the advertising industry.
TheTexas State University Advertising Program (https://sjmc.txst.edu/programs/txstad.html) is committed to hiring an accomplished, passionate and energetic, practicing advertising professional ready to transition to a full-time career in higher education.

Required Qualifications
Required of Both Ranks
+ A terminal degree in Advertising, Creative Writing, Advertising Design, Communications, Business Administration, Data and Analytics, or a related field.
+ Expertise to teach various advertising courses at the undergraduate and graduate level
Required for Assistant Rank:
+ Documents a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience beyond entry level in a full-time ad industry: Agency, in-house agency, professional practice (including
freelance)
+ Demonstrates competence in contemporary advertising industry practice in
one or more of the following areas: Advertising strategy, qualitative research, quantitative research, creative development and execution, client management, data analysis and insight
development.
Required of Associate Rank:
+ Documents a minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience beyond entry level in a full-time ad industry: Agency, in-house agency, professional practice (including freelance).
+ Demonstrated professional engagement through participation in, and/or presentations at, industry/professional conferences, or similar contributions to the discipline via solid, consistent work and presentations with nationally recognized brands and products.
+ Leadership/management within the advertising industry including oversight of employees/freelancers, consistent relationship building with key client constituencies or entrepreneurial experience in creating a company/practice.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred of All Ranks:
+ Successful teaching experience in higher education.
+ Experience leading and mentoring small groups and teams, in person and/or remotely.
+ Professional experience working in an advertising agency
