    Job Summary

    In Dearborn Support we help students navigate critical life events when unexpected emergencies arise - such as illness/hospitalization, loss of a loved one, or housing insecurity. We also help meet students' basic needs through our Student Food Pantry, creating strategic partnerships with community service providers, and leveraging other campus and community resources.

     

    Dearborn Support seeks a motivated Community Support Coordinator & Case Manager to serve as the primary contact for all Dearborn Support work and case management. The selected candidate will enhance the overall student experience by growing and improving the support and services offered and assisting with the triage of student needs.

    Responsibilities*

    Student Basic Needs Support

    + Contribute actively and collaboratively toward Dearborn Support's mission, goals, and priorities

    + Serve as Dearborn Support's primary point of contact, managing the student food pantry, technology rentals, and student support services

    + Support the life cycle of a student's critical life incident, including: triage of a situation; comprehension and coordination of needs; appropriate return to campus support; and regular and timely follow-up.

    + Provide a safe listening space in which to offer compassion, support, and guidance to students

    + Teach and coach students to develop and demonstrate problem-solving and self-advocacy skills

    + Facilitate notification to academic units and faculty on behalf of students about critical life event(s)

    + Seek out opportunities for collaboration and maintain working partnerships, both within and outside of the university administration ( i.e., partner with Financial Aid for the distribution of the Wolverine Emergency Support Fund)

    + Facilitate and manage partnerships with strategic community service providers based upon student needs, to offer services on campus for UM-Dearborn students

    + Establish and develop fundraising opportunities for the Student Food Pantry and other support resources

    + Monitor and advocate for the creation of campus policies to support student success after times of unexpected life circumstances

    + Closely work with the campus College and University Pantry Research Team

    + Supervise interns, student staff, leaders, and/or volunteers as appropriate

    + Develop effective assessment measures to understand the impact of Dearborn Support's work

    + Represent Dearborn Support at various community and/or university committees and task forces, promoting existing and new opportunities and/or policies

    General Responsibilities

    + Create and establish learning outcomes for programs and initiatives

    + Incorporate restorative practices into programming and the overall campus and office culture

    + Contribute to an inclusive campus and community environment

    + Other duties as assigned by the supervisor

    Required Qualifications*

    + A bachelor's degree is required (master's degree preferred) prior to the official start date in Social Work, Counseling, Higher Education/Student Affairs, or a related area

    + Strong interpersonal and communication skills

    + A self-starter with demonstrated initiative and follow-up skills

    + Ability to act independently and handle multiple tasks

    + Awareness of the developmental process experienced by college students

    + Ability to exercise sound judgment and handle confidential information with discretion according to the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

    + Knowledge of/experience with data tracking, assessment, and evaluation

    + Ability to work periodic evenings and weekends
