The Chief Engineer is responsible for the Engine Department and its staff and ensures the safe and efficient operation of ship plant and machinery. He is also designated as the Ship’s Safety Officer and ensures that all company, international and port regulations pertaining to safety are fully complied with. He is responsible to the Master to comply with the relevant and environmental pollution prevention legislation. He ensures that the responsible Engineer Officers are familiar with emergency procedures and are capable of operating all safety equipment and appliances. He endeavors to train the Second Engineer and other engineers for their elevation to higher ranks.
Our ideal candidate will have a minimum of 18 months experience as a Chief Engineer on a containership of above 15000 BHP and MAN B&W Engines. He must have a proven track record of competency and safety.
