ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL PROGRAMSThe Director of Special Education is a full-time, 12-month administrative position that reports to the Director of Special Education.The Assistant Director of Special Programs plays a critical leadership role in supporting the effective operation of Herkimer BOCES special education, alternative education, and related services programs. This position collaborates closely with program Directors, the Assistant Superintendent, and the Instructional Support Services (ISS) team to ensure high-quality instruction, staff development, and compliance across all Special Programs. The Assistant Director also oversees staff supervision, Medicaid compliance, and the coordination of itinerant services to ensure that all students receive equitable and effective educational support. Essential Duties

+ Collaborate with the Assistant Superintendent and ISS team to support curriculum, instruction, and programmatic initiatives across all Special Programs, including Pathways Academy, WEB, PK, and Related Services.

+ In collaboration with the administration, conduct evaluations for all non-tenured instructional staff within Special Programs in accordance with the Herkimer BOCES NYSTEPS plan.

+ Oversee and manage the CPSE Portal Medicaid system, ensuring accuracy in documentation and compliance with state and federal guidelines.

+ Hire, coordinate, and supervise itinerant staff across component districts, ensuring quality service delivery and effective scheduling based on district needs.

+ In collaboration with the Directors, ISS, and the ASIS (Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services), identify professional development needs and coordinate relevant training for both new and current staff.

+ Contribute to continuous program improvement by supporting data-driven decision-making, instructional coaching, and cross-program collaboration.

+ Participate in leadership team meetings and contribute to strategic planning initiatives across Herkimer BOCES Special Programs.

+ Assist in planning Regional Summer School and Extended School Year (ESY) programs.

+ Assist with other duties assigned.

Qualifications

+ New York State certification as a School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL).

+ Experience in special education administration, staff supervision, and program coordination preferred.

+ Strong knowledge of special education regulations, Medicaid compliance, and instructional leadership.

+ Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

+ Valid NYS driver’s license.
