Student Academic Senior Advisor for Allied Health Career Pathways
POSITION DETAILS
Provides expert and/or specialized academic and career counseling to a diverse student population within the college's workforce development and allied health programs.
The Student Advisor for Allied Health Career Pathways (Student Academic Advisor-Sr) is a new role within Workforce Development and Continuing Education (WDCE) that will provide a combination of career and academic advisement to students pursuing career pathways in allied health. Under the leadership of the faculty Director of Allied Health Workforce Development programs, this Advisor has the opportunity to forge the way in the college's work to create seamless on- and off-ramps between non-credit and credit opportunities for students to enter roles in this sector. Providing expert and/or specialized academic and career counseling to a diverse student population within the college's non-degree and degree workforce development and allied health programs, the Advisor will collaborate with staff and faculty across campus to create dynamic career pathways advisement materials, establish credit for prior learning processes, and market programs to current and prospective degree- and non-degree students.
About Workforce Development and Continuing Education
WDCE's mission is to equip the greater BCC community with technical and professional skills to launch family-sustaining careers in support of the overall economic development of the Bronx. We do this by offering low- and no-cost training and certifications for community members and BCC students in high-demand sectors, such as education, healthcare, green jobs, and IT. In addition, our Office of Career Development provides students with job-readiness and career-building services and connections to internships and jobs. We are a front-door for employers to BCC, ensuring degree and training programs are responsive to employer demand and employers see BCC as a go-to source of talent.
Key Responsibilities
• Offers comprehensive advisement on career pathways in allied health to full-time, part time, and non-matriculated students pursuing allied health credentials through workforce development pathways.
• Provides specialized counseling to support student transitions between non-credit and credit programs, including liaising with students and administrative offices to help students earn credit for prior learning for credentials.
• Develops standardized guides for career pathways in allied health and processes on campus for validating credit for prior learning.
• Tracks student outcomes, including enrollment from non-degree to degree and degree to non-degree pathways and employment outcomes.
• Collaborates with allied health department faculty, program coordinators, and academic advisors to align workforce development programming with existing degree and certificate offerings.
• Assists students in identifying appropriate allied health career pathways and supports them in declaring relevant majors, enrolling in non-degree courses that provide industry certifications, and selecting appropriate coursework.
• Monitors student progress toward credential completion; implements interventions and referrals as necessary to promote student success.
• Develops individualized academic and career plans.
• Provides information and guidance on student support services, college policies, program procedures, and career-focused academic planning.
• Facilitates student workshops and information sessions related to career readiness, credential attainment, and allied health employment opportunities.
• Participates in course scheduling and assists with development of workforce-aligned program offerings.
• Maintains accurate and complete advisement records; prepares activity reports and data analyses to support program outcomes and institutional reporting.
• Works with clinical coordinators to help schedule internship placements with allied health departments and external employer partners.
• Assists with departmental efforts related to accreditation and compliance with workforce education and allied health industry standards.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and four years related experience required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience in student advising, particularly within allied health or workforce development programs.
• Knowledge of allied health career pathways, credentialing processes, and employer expectations.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills.
• Familiarity with CUNY systems and student information platforms is a plus.
• Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage student caseloads, track progress, and recordkeeping.
• Proficiency in creating and maintaining spreadsheets, tracking logs, and audit tools to support advisement, program reporting, and compliance.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Provides student career assessment and counseling and provides comprehensive career services programs.

- Administers and interprets career and vocational assessment instruments
- Prepares and facilities workshops on career development topics such as job search strategies, resume and cover letter preparation, and interviewing techniques
- Develops and maintains relationships with employers that can lead to recruitment and hiring at the campus
- Assists with planning and presenting career fairs, speakers, employer visits, and other events
- Collaborates with faculty and student support service professionals to offer specialized programs and activities
- Trains and supervises interns and office staff
- Performs other duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This is a grant-funded position with a current end date of June 30, 2026. Reappointment after that will be subject to funding availability.
Salary range: $70,238 - $86,645; salary commensurate with education and experience.
CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employee will be adjusted by 6.09% with additional increases of 3.25% effective 9/1/2025 and 3.5% effective 9/1/2026, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
