    FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

    The Department of Anthropology of Lehman College, CUNY invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant Professor rank, with a start date of August 2026. We seek outstanding scientists with a strong publication record, and significant research experience in the field of biological anthropology. Responsibilities include research, teaching, mentoring, and service. The candidate is expected to generate an active, externally funded research program, and to participate in undergraduate and graduate teaching and research training. Annual teaching is 18 contact hours in introductory Biological Anthropology, Human Variation, and advanced courses areas of specialist interest, with contractually mandated release time included as part of all tenure-track hires.

     

    We seek applications from collaborative individuals with research interests in areas of biological anthropology that are synergistic with ongoing research at Lehman, CUNY, The New York Consortium in Evolutionary Anthropology (NYCEP), the American Museum of Natural History, and the Wildlife Conservation Society (including the Bronx Zoo). We particularly encourage scholars focusing on the following areas of research: the archaeology of human evolution, human and non-human primate paleobiology, primatology (including primate conservation biology), or human biology.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Ph.D. degree in Biological Anthropology or related field. Candidates must demonstrate effectiveness in teaching and communication, scholarly achievement, and collaborative potential. Preferred qualifications include a strong publication and funding record, innovative research, and a commitment to mentoring students at the undergraduate and graduate level. It is expected that the successful applicant will be involved in research mentoring of undergraduates at Lehman College. In addition, individuals to be considered for this position are expected to join the Doctoral faculty of the CUNY Graduate Center and the New York Consortium in Evolutionary Primatology (NYCEP), and engage in graduate teaching opportunities and the mentorship of PhD students.

    COMPENSATION

    **$109,025** for a 9-month, full-time appointment.

     

    Faculty may be eligible for summer salary as additional compensation, and support for conference travel. We provide mentoring and support for research and scholarship as part of our commitment to ongoing faculty professional development.
