The purpose of this position is to assist the Campus Director at the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf so that a quality education program is available to enrolled students who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, or deafblind, from birth to 22, including supports for individual students, coordination and communication between departments, and organization of special activities/events.
This position also supervises, manages, and directs the special education program assistants (Paraprofessionals) so that special education needs of students are met, including substitute coverage, schedule changes, and other needs of the program.
Minimum Qualifications
+ Completion of a post-secondary program in education, educational leadership, or a related field
+ At least two years of documented supervisory experience
+ Demonstrates the ability to provide training and support for other employees related to student needs and supports. Able to provide training individually or in small/large groups.
+ Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel required.
+ Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills are essential. Must be detail oriented, organized, and capable of working independently as well as collaborating with outside agencies, schools, and company representatives.
+ Strong relationship-building skills - able to relate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and parents/families. Possess the ability to effectively communicate.
+ Able to multi-task and work in a demanding and sometimes stressful work environment
+ Advanced ASL skills
Preferred Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s Degree in education, education leadership, or a related field
+ 3 or more years of supervisory experience.
+ Experience in the classrooms, supporting students’ learning and behavior needs.
+ Experience with union contracts and human resources procedures/policies.
Physical Requirements
+ Ability to sit and stand throughout the day
+ Ability to lift 50 pounds with assistance
Additional Requirements
+ Successful completion of a Criminal background check within the past 12 months.
+ Ability to obtain required ASL and/or Braille certification (classes held on campus)
+ Employees driving on MSA business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to MSA’s vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
