JOB SUMMARY:

Works directly with radiologic technology students, providing clinical experience aligned with didactical courses. Evaluates the progress of each student and communicates this to the Clinical Coordinator and Director of Radiologic Technology at Northern Essex Community College.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

+ Supervises students to ensure the quality of work.

+ Provides orientation to LGH and the radiology department.

+ Schedules students to appropriate areas within the department.

+ Determines work methods and performance standards.

+ Monitors the performance of each student, demonstrated by current observation and notes in the student record.

+ Complies with College Policies in authorizing changes in the assigned employee schedule.

+ Completes all student records according to established timeframes.

+ Monthly performance evaluations.

+ Initiates counseling and disciplinary action in a timely and supportive manner.

+ Performs all duties of a staff technologist as required and maintains competency in all areas of the department.

+ Demonstrates the knowledge and special skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in radiology (neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric).

+ Maintains equipment and reports problems promptly.

+ Maintains records and reports and collects statistics for administrative and regulatory purposes.

+ Checks the quality control of materials and equipment to be used on a daily basis.

+ Conducts orientation of new employees according to the department orientation checklist.

+ Assists staff in developing goals and objectives for individual growth and development.

+ Assigns workload to students, taking into consideration the priority of work and the skill of the employee.

+ Coordinates inpatient and outpatient requisitions to ensure timely completion of exams and available staff are utilized for maximum productivity.

+ Recognizes when others are in need of assistance and consistently offers to help when their own workload permits or finds someone who can.

+ Ensures quick resolution of problems by troubleshooting or assigning a person to assist in problem-solving in an expeditious manner.

+ Participates actively in departmental and hospital committees.

+ Keeps Radiology Management informed of any unusual concerns or situations, or conditions relative to staff, patients, and physicians.

+ Participates in the department's Quality Assurance Program, including reviewing data, problem recognition, identifying solutions, implementing, and assuring compliance.

+ Posts program information and ensures that staff are aware of all student levels of proficiency.

Required:

+ Graduate of a recognized, approved American Medical Association Council of Education program in Radiologic Technology.

+ Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and Massachusetts Radiologic Technologist License.

+ Three years’ appropriate skills in general diagnostic radiology.

+ Excellent verbal and written skills to facilitate communication with medical and technical personnel. Ability to deal efficiently and courteously with all hospital personnel.

Preferred:

+ Bachelor’s degree and supervisory experience.
