    The Idaho Transportation Department’s (ITD) is seeking a highly motivated and experiencedTraffic Signal Electricianto join our team inDistrict 6 - Rigby, Idaho. We are looking for a transportation professional who thrives in an innovative and collaborative work environment.

     

    The purpose of this position is to install, program, maintain, trouble shoot, repair, and inspect electrical and electronic systems in traffic signals, highway and sign lighting and buildings, structures, and specialized equipment. The successful incumbent will be required to respond to emergencies at any hour, work in all types of weather conditions, around high-speed and high-volume traffic, with high voltage, and at heights up to 50 feet.

     

    This position requires

     

    + Ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 60 days of hire.

    + Pre-employment drug testing and Random Drug & Alcohol tests.

    + Obtaining credentials as a certified Flagger in the state of Idaho within 1 year of hire.

    + Must be available to respond to work-related calls within30 minutes during on-call periods or as needed. This ensures timely support and responsiveness to operational needs.

     

    Example of Duties

     

    + Install, maintain, and repair traffic signal systems including wiring, conduits, and traffic signal hardware.

    + Install, maintain, and repair vehicle and pedestrian detection systems and intersection cabinets and their associated components and peripheries.

    + Program engineering traffic timing data into intersection controllers and other associated devices.

    + Respond to emergency callouts to locate causes of malfunctions and make repairs as needed, 24 hours a day 7 days a week including holidays to any traffic signal or traffic control device in the district including but not limited to electrical issues at rest areas, ports of entry, buildings and roadway lighting fixtures.

    + Install electrical and electronic systems in various devices, including traffic signals, traffic control devices, closed circuit TV, highway and overhead sign lighting, building service panels, building lighting, lab trailers, motors and controls, heating/cooling systems, brine/ magnesium chloride pumps, generators, and various communication and other equipment.

    + Review construction plans and inspect new installations to assure compliance with all electrical requirements and codes.

    + Write specifications to organize contract work, including purchase orders.

    + Organize projects, including determination of installation and repair methods, materials, manpower, equipment, and costs.

    + Operate specialized electrical testing and power equipment.

    + Perform preventive maintenance on service and bucket trucks to include testing, oil changes, cleaning, and lubricating.

    + Pull electrical permits and schedule electrical inspections through DBS.

    + Make safety presentations, provide work direction, technical instruction, and demonstrate electrical procedures to state maintenance staff, city and county traffic personnel, contractors, and others.

    + Set up safe work zone traffic control during maintenance operations.

    + Locate State owned underground utilities.

     

    Working Conditions

     

    + Work in all weather conditions.

    + Work on energized equipment, around loud noise, and construction equipment.

    + Stand and walk on level and uneven surfaces. Kneel, squat and stoop in the performance of installation and inspection duties.

    + Duties also require the incumbent to climb in and out of a boom bucket and balance while working at a height of a maximum of 50 feet.

    + Incumbent will regularly be required to lift equipment that weighs up to 50 pounds.

    + Exposed daily to electrical hazards and perform installation and repair work near moving traffic in all weather conditions.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Licensure:

    + Licensed as Journeyman Electrician in accordance with Idaho Code, title 54, Chapter 10.

    Experience:

    + Installing, repairing, and maintaining industrial electrical systems and equipment.

    + Troubleshooting and repairing electronically controlled circuits and multiphase high voltage/current circuits and control equipment.

    + Using specialized electrical tools, meters and testing equipment and electronic testing equipment to troubleshoot and repair industrial electrical and electronic systems and equipment.

    Physical requirement:

    + Lift items overhead weighing up to 50 pounds.

    + Valid driver's license.
