    As a Journeyman Network Plant Technician (Fiber Tester), you will be responsible for the installation, testing, certification, and documentation of fiber optic infrastructure. This role plays a critical part in validating the performance and reliability of high-speed communications networks across the enterprise. Working within a structured cable plant engineering team, the Fiber Tester ensures that all fiber installations meet technical standards and specifications. This position performs hands-on testing using OTDR, light source / power meter, and other diagnostic tools to certify fiber links for continuity, loss, and integrity in both Inside Plant (ISP) and Outside Plant (OSP) environments.

     

    Position will be located at Patrick SFB.

     

    This position is contingent upon successful contract award to V2X.

    Responsibilities

    Major Job Activities:

    + Surveys, designs, and implements physical fiber connections, tests live / dark fiber, ensure splices and distributions suffer no loss in fidelity.

    + Splices and terminates fiber and copper cables used in telecommunications systems.

    + Performs work under the supervision and guidance of senior-level staff.

    + Performs fiber optic cable fusion splicing and testing with multifunctional splice machine. Lays cable along existing raceways.

    + Locates cables, snakes through walls, ceilings.

    + Assists with splicing overhead or underground cables used in telecommunications systems.

    + Assists with prefabricated communication shelters by assisting with ISP / OSP cable entrance and overhead cable tray.

    + Measures, cuts, installs, and tests (according to standards identified in test plan) fiber and copper cables.

    + Validates that all components have been properly installed, secured, grounded, and tested.

    + Ensures work site conditions (cleanliness), including restoration of the site to original or better condition.

    + Performs work under the supervision and guidance of senior-level staff.

    + Supports accurate cable labeling.

    + Generate reports for Site Project Manager.

    + Creates organized files for reporting and recordkeeping.

    Material & Equipment Directly Used:

    + General user capabilities of Microsoft software applications required (primarily Project, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word and Microsoft Teams or SharePoint).

    + Proficient with AutoCAD.

    Working Environment:

    Office environment with potential to support austere locations.

    Physical Activities:

    Must be able to lift / carry 50 lbs.

    Qualifications

    Education / Certifications:

    + High School Diploma or Associate Degree.

    + (Preferred) BICSI certification.

    + (Preferred) advanced certification on the testing equipment used to test the fiber.

    Experience / Skills:

    + Minimum of 7 years of experience performing as a Network Plant Technician supporting fiber installations solutions on large, complex networks with a High School or Associate Degree.

    + Experience supporting DoD projects, specifically network modernization projects.

    Clearance Requirement:

    + This position requires an active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret (Tier 3) level clearance.

    Skills & Technology Used:

    + General user capabilities of Microsoft software applications required (primarily Project, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word and Microsoft Teams or SharePoint).

    + Proficient with AutoCAD.
