Description
Our client, a well-established non-profit in DC is looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to manage and maintain accurate financial records, support month-end and year-end close processes, and contribute to financial reporting and compliance efforts. This role will play a pivotal part in reconciling accounts, preparing journal entries, and collaborating with various teams to ensure financial data integrity. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop and apply accounting expertise in the non-profit industry.
Responsibilities:
• Prepare and post journal entries to ensure financial transactions are accurately recorded.
• Reconcile general ledger accounts and resolve any discrepancies detected.
• Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Support financial audits by compiling schedules, providing documentation, and addressing auditor inquiries.
• Participate in month-end and year-end close activities, including accruals and deferrals.
• Conduct reconciliations for key balance sheet accounts, such as bank and intercompany accounts.
• Analyze financial variances between actual results and budgeted projections, recommending corrective actions if needed.
• Process daily income receipts and ensure all entries align with the appropriate trust accounts.
• Monitor compliance with accounting principles, tax regulations, and internal policies.
• Collaborate with other departments to provide financial insights and support organizational goals.
The ideal candidate for this Staff Accountant role will have a BS in Accounting with 2+ years of GL or public accounting experience, detail oriented, intermediate Excel skills and a wiz with reconciliations. Comp range for this role is 85-105K with full benefits and they are 3 days/week in the office in DC. Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 2+ years of accounting experience with a strong focus on detail.
• Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting standards.
• Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and data analysis.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with strong attention to detail.
• Well-developed organizational skills, capable of managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with team members.
• Experience with account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close processes.
