    Farm Maintenance/Assistant Project Manager

     

    The Farm Maintenance / Assistant Project Manager is responsible for ensuring timely and effective maintenance and repair of all farm facilities and equipment. This hands-on leadership role requires strong technical experience in electrical systems, motor controls, welding, plumbing, and mechanical operations.

     

    The role also assists with new construction and major remodel projects in collaboration with the Project Manager. Responsibilities include planning, vendor coordination, quoting, permitting, and onsite project oversight.

     

    This position is essential in maintaining smooth day-to-day farm operations and ensuring the upkeep and compliance of our infrastructure.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Select Genetics presents a solid platform to serve customers on a national and international scale by providing quality poults, service, and innovation. Select Genetics is the leading supplier of poults and eggs to growers and companies worldwide and has operations in eight US States.

    Maintenance & Operations

    + Lead and support the farm maintenance team with daily upkeep and troubleshooting of facilities and equipment.

    + Perform and supervise repairs including electrical, welding, ventilation, plumbing, and high-pressure water/air systems.

    + Ensure all facilities, equipment, and company-provided housing are maintained to company standards.

    + Order repair parts and manage inventory needs for ongoing maintenance.

    + Monitor and direct the delivery of all bedding materials to the farms.

    + Enforce safety standards and compliance with OSHA and internal policies.

    + Respond to on-call maintenance needs including weekends and after hours.

    + Operate and train others on equipment such as skid steers and power tools.

    Leadership & Administration

    + Supervise, train, and evaluate maintenance employees.

    + Conduct performance reviews and recommend/approve pay increases.

    + Lead hiring efforts and participate in interviews for department staffing.

    + Approve timecards and manage employee payroll.

    + Foster a strong team environment and maintain clear, respectful communication with all employees.

    Project Management Support

    + Assist the Project Manager with all phases of new construction and major renovation projects.

    + Obtain quotes, coordinate vendor contracts, and ensure permitting requirements are met.

    + Oversee construction timelines and ensure compliance with specifications.

    + Serve as a liaison between the field and project leadership.

    Required Qualifications

    + 2–5 years of hands-on maintenance experience.

    + Proven experience supervising employees.

    + Strong mechanical aptitude with skills in electrical, plumbing, and welding.

    + Ability to prioritize tasks in high-pressure environments.

    + Must pass background check, employment verification, and MVR check.

    + Must not own or interact with backyard poultry, reptiles, swine, or fowl while employed.

    + Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

    + Ability to lift/push/pull over 50 lbs., bend, squat, and perform repetitive physical tasks.

    + Proficiency with basic computer tools and software.

    + Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.

    + Familiarity with agricultural or poultry operations strongly preferred.

    Work Conditions

    + Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, mud, snow).

    + Exposure to loud noise, odors, dust, chemicals, and animal-related environments.

    + Ability to work long hours, weekends, and be on-call as needed.
