    The MetroHealth System, a major teaching affiliate of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, is a nationally recognized, integrated health system serving more than one million patients visit annually. As part of our continued growth, the Department of Ophthalmology is seeking a qualified Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) to join our expanding academic practice.

     

    Our department is deeply committed to faculty development, interprofessional education, and clinical-academic collaboration. We serve as a major training site for the Cole Eye Institute Ophthalmology Residency Program, and our clinical facilities include experienced support staff, advanced diagnostic equipment, and access to an ambulatory surgery center.

    Position Overview:

    The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in Ophthalmology will provide specialized eye care consistent with the APP’s education, experience and certification across the lifespan, with a focus on adult populations, in coordination with the attending Ophthalmology physicians. This role includes both outpatient and surgical management in a collaborative academic environment, with opportunities to support resident education.

    _Key Responsibilities:_

    _Perform comprehensive and age-appropriate eye exams, including pediatric assessments from neonates to young adults._

     

    • _Obtain and document patient histories, conduct focused physical exams, and identify ocular and systemic conditions._

    • _Diagnose and manage a wide range of ophthalmic disorders and develop individualized treatment plans._

    • _Prescribe corrective lenses, medications, and appropriate therapeutic interventions._

    • _Provide support during surgical procedures including cataract removal and laser treatments: preoperative evaluations, intraoperative assistance, and postoperative management._

    • _Monitor surgical outcomes and coordinate follow-up care to ensure positive clinical results._

    • _Deliver patient and family education regarding eye health, disease prevention, and treatment compliance._

    • _Collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams, providing thoughtful assessments and participating in shared decision-making._

    • _Perform clinical procedures within scope of practice under appropriate supervision and seek guidance as needed._

    Qualifications:

    Required:

    Requirements to be considered

    Nurse Practitioner required credentials:

    •Graduate of an accredited DNP or MSN Advanced Practice Registered Nurse program

    •Current RN and APRN license in the state of Ohio

    •Board Certification as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in specialty.

    •Current BLS

    •Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or obtains within first year of practice

    •Meets the requirements/qualifications for medical staff clinical privileges in the specialty/department within MetroHealth

     

    Maintains a standard care arrangement with physicians and renews as required by the Ohio Board of Nursing

    Physician Assistant required credentials:

    •Graduate of an accredited Doctoral or MS Physician Assistant program.

    •Current PA licensure in the State of Ohio.

    •Board Certification as a Physician Assistant from NCCP

    •Current BLS

    •Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or obtains within first year of practice

    •Meets the requirements/qualifications for medical staff clinical privileges in the specialty/department within MetroHealth

     

    Maintains a supervision agreement with physician and renews as required by the Ohio Board of Medicine
