CAM Automation Engineer

The CAM Automation Engineer is responsible for preparing and supporting manufacturing automation for new and existing products, process improvement initiatives, and daily production operations. This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams including Quality, Production, Product Management, and Design to ensure efficient and effective manufacturing processes.
Key responsibilities include programming and developing methods for batch manufacturing in 5-axis and lathe CNC environments, as well as programming inspection equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in programming and a solid understanding of manufacturing principles.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Ensure smooth execution of manufacturing processes for new product introductions through effective communication and coordination with global and local teams.
+ Develop and optimize manufacturing processes to improve efficiency and reduce machining time.
+ Simulate manufacturing programs to minimize machine downtime and proactively reduce scrap.
+ Manage engineering systems software releases and provide ongoing technical support.
+ Benchmark and implement best practices from other Sandvik units to drive global process improvements.
+ Utilize data analytics to drive process decisions and continuous improvement.
+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support production goals.
+ Support training and documentation for operators.
Skills Required:
+ Proficiency in Azure, Git, and SQL/database management.
+ Good knowledge of cutting tools and machining applications.
+ Demonstrated ability to select, apply, and optimize cutting tools for various machining operations, with a clear understanding of tool geometry, material compatibility, wear mechanisms, and application-specific strategies.
+ Good understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
+ Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply GD&T principles in the context of manufacturing and inspection, including understanding of feature control frames, datums, tolerance zones, and their impact on machining and quality control.
+ Strong problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
+ Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects while effectively communicating technical issues, timelines, and production impacts across cross-functional teams. Collaborates with operations and engineering to develop and implement contingency plans when disruptions occur.
+ Prior use of Industry 4.0 technologies such as machine connectivity, and automation platforms.
+ Ability to work with digital manufacturing tools and platforms, including cloud-based systems.
+ Familiarity with systems such as Unigraphics NX, Vericut, TDM, PLM systems.
+ Bachelor`s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Science. Related field preferred or equivalent work experience is required.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
