Intern Dates: August 2025 through December 2025
Pay Rate: The Hourly pay rates are based on the following:
• Current Undergraduate Student: $14.00
• Current Graduate Student: $16.00
Positions Available: 1
Hours: Minimum of 20 hours per week – up to but not to exceed 29 hours per week.
*Maximum of 29 hours per week cannot be exceeded.
Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning is responsible for meeting the child care and early education needs of Georgia's children and their families. It administers the nationally recognized Georgia's Pre-K Program, licenses child care centers and home-based child care, administers Georgia Childcare and Parent Services (CAPS) program, federal nutrition programs, and managers Quality Rated, Georgia's community powered child care rating system.
The department also houses the Head Start State Collaboration Office, distributes federal funding to enhance the quality and availability of child care, and works collaboratively with Georgia child care resource and referral agencies and organizations throughout the state to enhance early care and education.
Job Summary:
As an IT Intern, you will play a hands-on role in designing and building scalable data models, transforming raw data into clean, analytics-ready datasets, and helping deliver trusted insights across the organization. This internship is ideal for a student passionate about bridging the gap between data engineering and analytics, particularly within Microsoft’s modern data ecosystem.
You will work closely with experienced analytics engineers and stakeholders, gaining exposure to tools such as Azure Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, AI Foundry, Power BI, SQL, and Python. This role is designed as a learning-first experience with ample mentorship, shadowing opportunities, and gradual hands-on contributions aligned to your skill level.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Transform raw data from diverse sources into structured datasets using SQL, Python, and Databricks notebooks.
+ Build and maintain modular data models with Microsoft Fabric, supporting enterprise BI and analytics.
+ Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to define business logic, metrics, and reusable datasets.
+ Support version control and workflow automation using GitHub and Azure DevOps.
+ Assist in documenting data lineage, building data dictionaries, and maintaining technical documentation.
+ Debug and validate data pipelines, ensuring data quality across cloud platforms.
+ Participate in agile ceremonies (stand-ups, retros, planning) and shadow senior engineers to understand real-world data product development.
+ Explore the integration of AI and machine learning models into analytical workflows using AI Foundry

Entry Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled student, part-time or full-time, with a 3.0 GPA or higher (must submit transcript to verify enrollment and GPA.
• Georgia resident or attending a Georgia college, university, or law school
• Working level skill in the use of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook) Good research and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Strong knowledge of SQL and Python, and a demonstrated interest in data and analytics
+ Familiarity with Power BI, Excel, or other visualization tools
+ Experience or coursework in Microsoft Azure, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, or AI Foundry
+ Exposure to Git, version control, and CI/CD pipelines
+ Strong analytical and structured thinking skills
+ Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
Physical Requirements and Performance Aptitudes (for Interns):
+ Requires the ability to occasionally continuously stand or walk for long periods of time; regularly requires bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling and moving items or materials occasionally of moderate weight up to 30 pounds.
+ Occasionally stand or walk for long periods of time; moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
+ Requires the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.
+ Requires the ability to speak clearly.
+ Requires the ability to hear and understand at a normal conversational level.
+ Requires close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading and visual inspection.
+ Requires the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data. Includes exercising discretion in determining data classification.
+ Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable.
+ Comfortable working extended hours at a computer (data modeling, analysis, documentation)
+ Able to learn quickly, follow instructions, and apply logical problem-solving techniques
+ Capable of managing multiple tasks and documenting work clearly and efficiently
